- Heat the vegetable oil in a medium pot over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic and cook, until the onions are golden, 6 to 7 minutes. Stir in the ketchup, 1 cup water, the vinegar, brown sugar, steak sauce, Worcestershire sauce, molasses, mustard, celery seed and 1 teaspoon salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer until the onions are tender, about 15 minutes. Stir in the liquid smoke, if using. Strain the sauce, pressing on the solids to extract any liquid.

STIR IN WORCESTERSHIRE SAUCE, VINEGAR AND SPICE MIXTURE AND COOK OVER MEDIUM HEAT 10 MINUTES. REDUCE HEAT TO LOW, ADD BUTTER, AND SIMMER UNTIL MELTED. TASTE. IF TOO TART, STIR IN BROWN SUGAR, AND SIMMER 5 MINUTES LONGER. SERVE WARM. REFRIGERATE UNUSED SAUCE UP TO SEVERAL WEEKS. USES: AS A FINISHING AND TABLES SAUCE FOR PORK AND CHICKEN. MARINADE FOR CHICKEN ON THE GRILL FROM SAVANNAH
This marinade is enough for 12 pieces of chicken. Recipe is taken from "Savannah Style" a cookbook published by the Jr. League there in 1980. You marinate the chicken pieces, then cook them in a pan on the grill, turning frequently, then remove from pan and place chicken pieces directly on grill for about 10 minutes. Original recipe used in addition 2 1/2 tsp salt, but I think this would be salty enough from the soy sauce, Cooking time is marinating time.

- When Pork is finished roasting, add the Pan Drippings, Teriyaki Sauce, and red pepper flakes to a sauce pan, over low heat. Meanwhile mix together Corn Starch and water. Then pour corn starch mixture into the Teriyaki Sauce mixture, and bring to a simmer till it thickens. Mix in 1 Cup of Ketchup.
