Try something new with this Sandwich Sushi recipe. Roll up ham, cheese and condiments in slices of whole wheat bread to make this tasty Sandwich Sushi.

4 slices whole wheat bread
4 tsp. KRAFT Light Mayo Reduced Fat Mayonnaise
4 KRAFT 2% Milk Singles
2 slices OSCAR MAYER Boiled Ham, cut in half
Special Equipment: waxed paper & rolling pin

Steps:

  • Place 1 bread slice between 2 sheets of waxed paper; flatten with rolling pin to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut off and discard crust. Repeat with remaining bread slices.
  • Spread bread slices with mayo; top with 2% Milk Singles and ham. Roll up, starting at one short side of each.
  • Cut each into 4 slices.

Convenient way to satisfy a sushi craving. I invented this delectable open-faced "sandwich" while trying to use up leftover ingredients in a creative way. I made this with canned salmon (reminiscent of a Philadelphia roll) but I'm assuming tuna will work well also.

1 (6 ounce) can salmon or 1 (6 ounce) can tuna (albacore)
4 ounces cream cheese
1 avocado
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 teaspoons wasabi powder
2 teaspoons soy sauce
2 teaspoons rice vinegar
1 teaspoon sesame seeds
4 rice cakes
pickled ginger (optional)

Steps:

  • Flake salmon or tuna with lemon juice in a medium-sized bowl.
  • Add cream cheese and stir (a fork or spreading knife works best) until the mixture becomes paste-like.
  • Stir in wasabi powder and soy sauce (measurements are estimates so if you're concerned about it being too hot or salty, begin with smaller amounts and then adjust seasonings according to taste).
  • Stir until well combined.
  • Spread a generous heaping of mixture on each rice cake.
  • Slice avocados on top.
  • Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  • Drizzle with rice vinegar and a touch of extra soy sauce.
  • If you have it, a little pickled ginger with each bite gives the total sushi effect!

2 slices white or whole-wheat sandwich bread
3 tablespoons cream cheese
1 1/2 tablespoons sour cream
4 carrot matchsticks (each 6 inches long)
4 cucumber matchsticks (each 6 inches long)

Steps:

  • Flatten bread slices with a rolling pin. Combine cream cheese and sour cream; spread mixture over slices. Lay 2 carrot and 2 cucumber matchsticks at the bottom of each slice -- let ends hang over edges. Roll up bread, pressing gently to seal, then cut each roll in four equal pieces.

  • Rinse the rice under cold water. I normally do this about 4-5 times until the water runs clear. Cook the rice in a rice cooker or on the stove top. Depending on the rice you are using, this takes about 5-6 minutes. When the rice is done, spread it out on a plate so it can cool off.
  • Combine the ingredients to marinate the tofu or tempeh. Press the tofu (see notes). Slice the tofu or tempeh in thin slices, about 1/2 centimeter (quarter inch).
