Salisbury Steak Meatballs. Beef meatballs smothered in a delicious homemade gravy! Pure comfort food!

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
1 egg
3 tablespoons dijon mustard
3 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
1 large onion (sliced thin)
4 tablespoons 1/2 stick unsalted butter
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1/4 cup all purpose flour
2 cups beef stock
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • Add beef, breadcrumbs, egg, mustard, ketchup and worcestershire sauce to a large bowl. Combine with your hands or a large spoon.
  • Roll into 1 1/2 inch meatballs.
  • Heat oil in a large skillet. Working in batches add meatballs and brown on both sides, 2 minutes per side. (They will finish cooking in the sauce). Remove the meatballs and set aside.
  • Add onions to the same skillet and cook over medium heat until light brown and caramelized 5-10 minutes. (You can add more oil or a splash of water if the onions are getting too brown)
  • Add the butter to the skillet with the onions and melt.
  • Next add in the garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes.
  • Add the flour to the skillet and whisk until it forms a thick paste. Cook for 1 minute whisking constantly.
  • Slowly pour in the beef broth until it forms a thick gravy.
  • Add in worcestershire and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Return the meatballs back to the pan and simmer for 3-4 minutes or until the meatballs are cooked through.
  • Serve immediately over egg noodles or mashed potatoes with fresh parsley for garnish.

1 large sweet onion, halved and thinly sliced
1 tablespoon brown sugar
3 tablespoons butter
2 jars (12 ounces each) beef gravy
1 package (12 ounces) frozen fully cooked homestyle meatballs, thawed
Hot cooked egg noodles

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, saute onion and brown sugar in butter until onion is tender. Add gravy and meatballs. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 4-6 minutes or until meatballs are heated through, stirring occasionally. Serve with noodles.

1-1/2 lb. lean ground beef
1 pkg. (6 oz.) STOVE TOP Stuffing Mix for Chicken
1 onion, finely chopped
1 egg
3-1/4 cups water, divided
1 Tbsp. oil
1 jar (12 oz.) HEINZ HomeStyle Savory Beef Gravy
2 cups instant potato flakes
1 cup sour cream
6 Tbsp. chopped fresh parsley

Steps:

  • Mix first 4 ingredients and 1 cup water. Shape into 6 (3/4-inch-thick) oval patties.
  • Heat oil in large skillet on medium-high heat. Add patties; cook 5 min. Turn. Reduce heat to medium; cook 5 min. or until done (160ºF). Mix gravy with 1/2 cup water; pour over patties. Bring to boil; cover. Simmer on low heat 5 min.
  • Meanwhile, bring remaining 1-3/4 cups water to boil in medium saucepan. Remove from heat; stir in potato flakes with fork. Stir in sour cream; cook on low heat 3 min. or until heated through, stirring frequently.
  • Spoon potatoes onto serving plates. Serve with meat and gravy; sprinkle with parsley.

For Meatballs
1 1/2 lb lean ground beef
1/2 cup breadcrumbs, I used Panko
1 egg
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup coarse grain mustard
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp seasoning salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 tsp onion powder
2 tbsp olive oil (for frying)
For Gravy
2 tbsp butter
1 large onion, chopped
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 cup beef broth or chicken broth
2 tbsp cornstarch
1/2 tsp seasoning salt
1 tbsp ketchup
parsley for garnish
For Mashed Potatoes
5 large potatoes, peeled and chopped into 1 inch cubes
4 tbsp (1/2 stick) unsalted butter
1/4 to 1/2 cup skim milk
1/4 cup light cream cheese
salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Add all the meatball ingredients (excluding the olive oil) to a large bowl and mix well, use your hands. Shape into 1 inch meatballs. You should get about 40 meatballs. Add the olive oil to a large skillet and heat over medium to high heat. Add meatballs and cook. If you're using a large skillet all meatballs should fit in one batch otherwise, you might have to fry them in a couple batches. Cook the meatballs on all sides, add more oil if needed. Remove meatballs from skillet and set aside. To the same skillet add butter and melt. Add onion and cook until onion is soft and translucent. In a bowl add the cornstarch and beef broth and whisk. Add broth and remaining gravy ingredients to skillet, and cook for about 3 to 5 minutes, sauce should thicken. If the sauce is too thick add a bit more beef broth. Taste for seasoning and adjust as necessary. When the gravy is done add the meatballs back to the skillet and toss them around so they're covered in the gravy. Garnish with parsley. For Mashed Potatoes Peel the potatoes and cut them in 1 inch cubes. Boil them on medium heat until potatoes are tender, for about 20 minutes. Drain potatoes and in a medium bowl, add the potatoes, milk, butter, cream cheese and salt and pepper. Using a potato masher mash the potatoes until desired consistency. You may also use a hand mixer if you wish. Add additional milk as necessary. Serve meatballs over mashed potatoes. notes To prevent your meatballs from crumbling and falling apart, do not overcrowd your meatballs while cooking them. Leave about ½ inch of space in between.   • In a bowl combine your ground beef with all of the meat ingredients, and form into balls. Mine were slightly larger than a golf ball. Pour a couple of Tablespoons of oil in a skillet, and add meatballs, brown over medium heat, rotating them often so they don’t burn. Once they are browned evenly, remove them from the pan and set them aside.
  • Remove any excess grease from pan. (Don’t wash) Add about 2 Tablespoons of butter, and stir in your sliced onions.
