GRANDMA'S RUSSIAN TEA

Grandma's Russian Tea image

I grew up drinking this tea at my grandmother's house. I now fix it at my house on really cold days, when I am sick (lots of vitamin C!), and at Christmas. It is perfect to let simmer on the stove to make the house smell good and to serve to guests. I have no idea why its called 'Russian' tea; that is just what my grandmother always called it. Use any tea you like. I've used regular black tea, decaf, and cinnamon spice, and it's all great. If using spiced tea, you may want to adjust the amount of cinnamon, cloves, and allspice. This is also great reheated!

RUSSIAN TEA WITH FRUIT

Russian Tea With Fruit image

This tea uses preserved fruit to give it added sweetness and taste. The lemon helps balance out the sweet. You can substitute strawberry or raspberry preserves if you prefer. Using loose tea allows the leaves to steep better. Don't use a delicate tea for this. Adapted from the New Settlement Cookbook.

RUSSIAN TEA(NATIONAL DRINK OF RUSSIA)

Russian Tea(National Drink of Russia) image

If you want to try something uniquely Russian, try a cup of nice, black tea with a spoonful of fruit jam stirred in. Tea is the national drink of Russia, while the jam is a happy bonus.

Provided by Sharon123

Categories     Beverages

Time 10m

Yield 1 cup concentrate

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 black tea bags (I use decaf)
1 cup water
1 -2 teaspoon jam (your choice-blackberry comes to mind, raspberry? the possibilities are endless)
sugar
lemon
honey

Steps:

  • Bring water to a boil. Turn off heat and add tea bags. Let steep about 10-15 minutes. This is the concentrate.
  • Pour desired amount of concentrate into a cup and mix it with hot water; thus, one can make one's tea as strong as one wants, according to one's taste. Add some jam to the cup and stir.
  • Variation:.
  • Sugar, lemon,or honey can be added freely instead of the jam if you like.
