These Crockpot Root Beer Chicken Wings come out crispy, spicy, sweet, and tangy - everything a great wing should be, in one little package.

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 lb chicken wing drummettes
1 cup root beer
1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce
2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Steps:

  • Spray crockpot with cooking spray. Place chicken in slow cooker.
  • In medium bowl, stir root beer, barbecue sauce, brown sugar and pepper flakes until well blended. Reserve 1 cup sauce. Pour remaining sauce over chicken. Stir to coat drummettes.
  • Cover; cook on Low 4 hours.
  • Once cooking is done. Set your oven to broil. Line a baking sheet with foil. Place chicken on pan (discard liquid in the crockpot). Brush with reserved 1 cup sauce. Broil tops of chicken until browned. Turn chicken and brush with sauce and boil that side until browned.

For the Sauce
3/4 c. root beer
1 c. ketchup
1 tbsp. light brown sugar
2 tbsp. honey
1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
Juice of 1 lime
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. onion powder
To Make Barbecue Wings
3 lb. chicken wings
2 tbsp. vegetable oil
kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, whisk together root beer, ketchup, brown sugar, honey, Worcestershire, lime juice, garlic powder and onion powder.
  • Simmer until the flavors meld and the sauce reduces slightly, 8 to 10 minutes.
  • To make wings: Preheat oven to 425°. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with a metal rack.
  • In a large bowl, toss chicken wings with vegetable oil and season with salt and pepper.
  • Place on wire rack and bake until golden and crispy, 55 minutes to 1 hour.
  • Brush baked wings with barbecue sauce and broil until caramelized, about 4 minutes.

3 lb chicken wings
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons pepper
1 cup BBQ sauce
17 fl oz root beer
BBQ sauce, to taste
¼ cup brown sugar, to taste

Steps:

  • Season chicken wings with salt and pepper.
  • Spray your slow cooker pot with cooking spray, add chicken wings, bbq sauce and root beer. Cover, cook on low for 4 hours.
  • Remove wings from slow cooker, place on parchment lined tray. Brush more bbq sauce onto wings, sprinkle on some brown sugar. Place under broiler for 8 -10 minutes.
  • Enjoy!

1/2 tsp. butter
2 tsp. chopped shallots
1/2 tsp. minced garlic
2 Tbsp. root beer
1/4 cup KRAFT Original Barbecue Sauce
1/2 tsp. ancho chile pepper powder
1 qt. (4 cups) oil
2 lb. chicken wings, split at joints, tips removed

Steps:

  • Melt butter in small saucepan on medium heat. Add shallots and garlic; cook and stir 1 to 2 min. or until shallots are crisp-tender.
  • Stir in root beer. Return to boil; simmer until reduced by half. Stir in barbecue sauce and chile powder. Remove from heat.
  • Heat oil in large skillet on medium heat. Add wings, in batches; cook 8 to 10 min. or until done, turning after 5 min. Drain on paper towels.
  • Place wings in large bowl. Add barbecue sauce mixture; toss to evenly coat wings.
