PIZZA FROM SCRATCH IN 20 MINUTES OR LESS RECIPE BY TASTY

Pizza From Scratch In 20 Minutes Or Less Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: self-raising flour, water, olive oil, pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, dried oregano, chili flakes

Provided by Jordan Ballantine

Categories     Dinner

Time 30m

Yield 1 serving

Number Of Ingredients 8

¾ cup self-raising flour
¼ cup water
1 tablespoon olive oil, for frying
3 tablespoons pizza sauce
1 handful mozzarella cheese, grated
6 slices pepperoni
dried oregano
¼ teaspoon chili flakes

Steps:

  • Whizz together the flour and water in a food processor for a minute or so until it clumps together to form a single ball. You might need to add a little bit more water or flour to get the consistency right. (Dough should be soft, but not sticky!)
  • Preheat the grill (broiler) on high.
  • On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1 cm (½ inch) thick.
  • Place pizza dough onto a well-oiled, oven-safe frying pan on high heat.
  • While the bottom is cooking on the hob, top the pizza with the sauce, cheese, pepperoni herbs and whatever else you like. (Try your best to not over-top it or else it can fall apart or get soggy.)
  • Continue cooking on high until the edges of the crust start browning and crisping.
  • Place the pan under the grill and cook the toppings until the cheese is bubbly and browning. Slice.
  • If you're quick, you can actually have this from-scratch pizza on your plate (and in you mouth) quicker than it takes to cook a pre-made frozen pizza.
  • Enjoy!

PIZZA DOUGH

For your next pizza night at home, make Bobby Flay's homemade Pizza Dough recipe from Food Network, and finish it with your favorite toppings.

Provided by Bobby Flay

Time 1h30m

Yield 2 (14-inch) pizza crusts

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 1/2 to 4 cups bread flour, plus more for rolling
1 teaspoon sugar
1 envelope instant dry yeast
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 1/2 cups water, 110 degrees F
2 tablespoons olive oil, plus 2 teaspoons

Steps:

  • Combine the bread flour, sugar, yeast and kosher salt in the bowl of a stand mixer and combine. While the mixer is running, add the water and 2 tablespoons of the oil and beat until the dough forms into a ball. If the dough is sticky, add additional flour, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together in a solid ball. If the dough is too dry, add additional water, 1 tablespoon at a time. Scrape the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead into a smooth, firm ball.
  • Grease a large bowl with the remaining 2 teaspoons olive oil, add the dough, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and put it in a warm area to let it double in size, about 1 hour. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and divide it into 2 equal pieces. Cover each with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let them rest for 10 minutes.

QUICK AND EASY PIZZA CRUST

Quick and Easy Pizza Crust image

This is a great recipe when you don't want to wait for the dough to rise. You just mix it and allow it to rest for 5 minutes and then it's ready to go!! It yields a soft, chewy crust. For a real treat, I recommend you use bread flour and bake it on a pizza stone, but all-purpose flour works well too. Enjoy!

EASY HOMEMADE PIZZA DOUGH

Easy Homemade Pizza Dough image

Follow these basic instructions for a thick, crisp, and chewy pizza crust at home. The recipe yields enough pizza dough for two 12-inch pizzas and you can freeze half of the dough for later. Close to 2 pounds of dough total.

Provided by Sally

Categories     Dinner

Time 2h30m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 and 1/3 cups (320ml) warm water (between 100-110°F, 38-43°C)
2 and 1/4 teaspoons (7g) Platinum Yeast from Red Star instant yeast (1 standard packet)*
1 Tablespoon (13g) granulated sugar
2 Tablespoons (30ml) olive oil, plus more for pan and brushing on dough
1 teaspoon salt
3 and 1/2 cups (about 450g) all-purpose flour (spoon & leveled), plus more for hands and surface
sprinkle of cornmeal for dusting the pan

Steps:

  • Whisk the warm water, yeast, and granulated sugar together in the bowl of your stand mixer fitted with a dough hook or paddle attachment. Cover and allow to rest for 5 minutes. *If you don't have a stand mixer, simply use a large mixing bowl and mix the dough with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula in the next step.
  • Add the olive oil, salt, and flour. Beat on low speed for 2 minutes. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. With lightly floured hands, knead the dough for 3-4 minutes (for a visual, watch me do it in the video above!). The dough can be a little too heavy for a mixer to knead it, but you can certainly use the mixer on low speed instead. After kneading, the dough should still feel a little soft. Poke it with your finger - if it slowly bounces back, your dough is ready to rise. If not, keep kneading.
  • Lightly grease a large bowl with oil or nonstick spray- just use the same bowl you used for the dough. Place the dough in the bowl, turning it to coat all sides in the oil. Cover the bowl with aluminum foil, plastic wrap, or a clean kitchen towel. Allow the dough to rise at room temperature for 60-90 minutes or until double in size. (Tip: For the warm environment on a particularly cold day, heat your oven to 150°F (66°C). Turn the oven off, place the dough inside, and keep the door slightly ajar. This will be a warm environment for your dough to rise. After about 30 minutes, close the oven door to trap the air inside with the rising dough. When it's doubled in size, remove from the oven.)
  • Preheat oven to 475°F (246°C). Allow it to heat for at least 15-20 minutes as you shape the pizza. (If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to preheat as well.) Lightly grease baking sheet or pizza pan with nonstick spray or olive oil. Sprinkle lightly with cornmeal, which gives the crust extra crunch and flavor.
  • When the dough is ready, punch it down to release any air bubbles. Divide the dough in half. (If not making 2 pizzas, freeze half of the dough for another time. See freezing instructions below.) On a lightly floured work surface using lightly floured hands or rolling pin, gently flatten the dough into a disc. Place on prepared pan and, using lightly floured hands, stretch and flatten the disc into a 12-inch circle, about 1/2-inch thick. If the dough keeps shrinking back as you try to stretch it, stop what you're doing, cover it lightly for 5-10 minutes, then try again. Once shaped into a 12-inch circle, lift the edge of the dough up to create a lip around the edges. I simply pinch the edges up to create the rim. If using a pizza stone, place the dough directly on baker's peels dusted with cornmeal.
  • Cover dough lightly with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel and allow to rest for a few minutes as you prepare your pizza toppings. I suggest pepperoni & green peppers or jalapeño slices, extra cheese pizza, Hawaiian pizza, margherita pizza, pesto pizza, spinach artichoke white pizza, or homemade BBQ chicken pizza.
  • Using your fingers, push dents into the surface of the dough to prevent bubbling. To prevent the filling from making your pizza crust soggy, brush the top lightly with olive oil. Top with your favorite toppings and bake for 13-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
  • Slice hot pizza and serve immediately. Cover leftover pizza tightly and store in the refrigerator. Reheat as you prefer. Baked pizza slices can be frozen up to 3 months.

HOW TO MAKE THE BEST HOMEMADE PIZZA RECIPE BY TASTY

How To Make The Best Homemade Pizza Recipe by Tasty image

Making homemade pizza dough can sound like a lot of work, but it's so worth the bragging rights. The dough itself requires few ingredients and just a little bit of rising and rest time. While you wait for the dough to be ready, you can get to work prepping your tomato sauce, chopping fresh vegetables, or grating the cheese you'll put on top. Bake for 15 minutes, garnish with basil (or, let's be real, more cheese), and enjoy showing off your way-better-than-takeout creation.

Provided by Brenda Blanco

Categories     Dinner

Yield 16 servings

Number Of Ingredients 21

2 ½ cups warm water
1 teaspoon sugar
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
7 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
6 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, plus more for greasing
1 ½ teaspoons kosher salt
¼ cup semolina flour
28 oz canned whole tomatoes
1 tablespoon kosher salt
tomato sauce
fresh mozzarella cheese, torn into small pieces
fresh basil leaf
extra virgin olive oil
fresh mozzarella cheese, torn into small pieces
ricotta cheese
fresh basil pesto
dried oregano
tomato sauce
fresh mozzarella cheese, torn into small pieces
spicy pepperoni slice
freshly grated parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • "Bloom" the yeast by sprinkling the sugar and yeast in the warm water. Let sit for 10 minutes, until bubbles form on the surface.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the middle and add the olive oil and bloomed yeast mixture. Using a spoon, mix until a shaggy dough begins to form.
  • Once the flour is mostly hydrated, turn the dough out onto a clean work surface and knead for 10-15 minutes. The dough should be soft, smooth, and bouncy. Form the dough into a taut round.
  • Grease a clean, large bowl with olive oil and place the dough inside, turning to coat with the oil. Cover with plastic wrap. Let rise for at least an hour, or up to 24 hours.
  • Punch down the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured work surface. Knead for another minute or so, then cut into 4 equal portions and shape into rounds.
  • Lightly flour the dough, then cover with a kitchen towel and let rest for another 30 minutes to an hour while you prepare the sauce and any other ingredients.
  • Preheat the oven as high as your oven will allow, between 450-500˚F (230-260˚C). Place a pizza stone, heavy baking sheet (turn upside down so the surface is flat), or cast iron skillet in the oven.
  • Meanwhile, make the tomato sauce: Add the salt to the can of tomatoes and puree with an immersion blender, or transfer to a blender or food processor, and puree until smooth.
  • Once the dough has rested, take a portion and start by poking the surface with your fingertips, until bubbles form and do not deflate.
  • Then, stretch and press the dough into a thin round. Make it thinner than you think it should be, as it will slightly shrink and puff up during baking.
  • Sprinkle semolina onto an upside down baking sheet and place the stretched crust onto it. Add the sauce and ingredients of your choice.
  • Slide the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or pan. Bake for 15 minutes, or until the crust and cheese are golden brown.
  • Add any garnish of your preference.

Provided by Honest and Tasty

Categories     Main

Time 1h40m

Number Of Ingredients 16

1/2 cup Lukewarm Water
1 package Active Dry Yeast
4 cups Organic Bread Flour (divided)
3/4 cup Cold Water
2 tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil (plus extra for greasing large bowl)
1 teaspoon Sugar
2 teaspoons Salt
1 boneless and skinless Chicken Breast
3/4 cup BBQ Sauce (divided)
1 teaspoon Sea Salt (divided)
6-8 ounces Mozzarella Cheese (thinly sliced)
½ of a Red Onion (sliced thinly)
A pinch of cracked Black Pepper
¼ cup Cilantro leaves (chopped)
¼ teaspoon Red Chili Flakes (Optional)
¼ cup shredded Parmesan Cheese (Optional)

Steps:

  • In a large mixing bowl, add lukewarm water, yeast, and 1/2 cup bread flour. Whisk to combine well and let sit for 30 min.
  • Add cold water and olive oil. Whisk to combine.
  • Whisk in sugar and salt.
  • Add in remainder of flour and mix first with a spatula and then with hands to form a dough ball.
  • Knead the dough on a clean and lightly floured surface (or even right in the mixing bowl) for a few minutes to make sure everything is well incorporated.
  • Lightly oil the mixing bowl and place dough ball inside. Cover with plastic wrap and keep in a warm spot for at least 1 hour to rise. You can definitely do this the night before with great results--just store in fridge after an hour or two of letting it rise first.
  • Preheat oven to 375º F (190º C).
  • Place chicken onto an ovenproof dish.
  • Pour ¼ cup BBQ sauce right over the chicken, slather it all around and add ½ teaspoon salt.
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until chicken is done.
  • After it comes out of the oven, let cool for a few minutes before slicing it into thin bite-sized pieces.
  • Place pizza stone (or an upside down baking tray) into oven and increase oven temperature to 500º F (260º C)---or 550º F (287º C) if your oven goes that high. Let it preheat for 30 minutes before putting in the pizza.
  • Use half the dough for one pizza. Keep the other half covered and store that one for later in the fridge.
  • Use fingers or rolling pin to form a thin crust on a lightly cornmealed surface or on parchment paper.
  • Place the crust onto a pizza peel or the backside of a cookie tray (that is either topped with parchment paper or lightly dusted with cornmeal).
  • Add ½ cup BBQ sauce onto crust and spread it around (leaving the edges clean).
  • Add cheese (again, avoid edges of crust), chicken, and red onion.
  • Sprinkle with ½ teaspoon salt and a pinch of cracked black pepper.
  • Carefully slide pizza around on the tray/peel to test its ability to easily slide onto the pizza stone/tray. If you're not using parchment paper, you may need to add more cornmeal to the bottom of the crust to keep from sticking.
  • Slide the pizza (along with the parchment paper if using it) right onto pizza stone. Parchment paper will turn a bit darker but won't burn. Do not worry.
  • Allow pizza to bake for 10 minutes or until cheese is bubbly and crust is crisped up and golden brown.
  • Remove from oven and add chopped cilantro.
  • Top with some parmesan cheese and red chili flakes, slice into squares, and enjoy!

  • Roll dough into your desired shape and gently transfer to your prepared pan. (Or bake on a pizza stone, see instructions in the notes).
