Pinecone Bird Feeder with Bark Butter image

I love using Bark Butter...and the birds love it too...You can add all kinds of goodies, even meal worms Enjoy watching the birds eat their treat!

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 large pine cone
1 large paper plate
1 butter knife
bark butter
birdseed
ribbon or yarn or twine
scissors

Steps:

  • 1. Cut a long length of yarn, twine, or ribbon to hang the bird feeder.
  • 2. Tie the ribbon in a knot around the pine cone near the top (about 3 sections down).
  • 3. Tie a knot in the end of the ribbon.
  • 4. Use the knife to get a large clump of bark butter on the paper plate.
  • 5. Use the knife to spread bark butter inside the pine cone and around the edges.
  • 6. Sprinkle the birdseed over the pine cone. Roll the pine cone in the birdseed that is on the plate. Hang the bird feeder on the tree.

My husband and I love to feed the birds and watch them go for it...We have quite a few different birds that visit us every year...This is great for our winter birds...Rosy Finches, Gross-beaks, Titmouse, Nuthatchers and more...My hubby and I make them I have located recipes for them on line though I have these in my bird books, too...We use the bark butter on ours...We have a store here that we use Wild Birds Unlimited..family owned they are from back east and they have a book out too... No cooking or baking is needed. Great project for the kids.

1/3 cup(s) peanut butter or bark butter
2/3 cup(s) cornmeal
WILD BIRD SEED MIX
WIRE

Steps:

  • 1. Combine peanut butter or bark butter and cornmeal in a small bowl. Press the mixture into all the cracks of the pine cone. Roll the sticky peanut butter covered pine cone in the wild bird seed mix.
  • 2. Attach the wire to the top of the pine cone and hang it outside.
