Salty Limeade image

Limeade is popular throughout Asia and often served salty. It will take some experimentation on your part to determine whether you like it really salty-in which case you should reduce the sugar substantially-or sweet, like lemonade. You might be surprised; salty limeade is usually considered more refreshing (and makes a good substitute for sports drinks). You can omit the salt entirely to make standard limeade.

Yield makes 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 3

Ingredients

1 cup fresh lime juice, pulp and rinds reserved
1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
1 cup Sugar Syrup (preceding recipe), or to taste

Steps:

Bring 6 cups water to a boil. Remove from the heat and add the lime pulp and rinds. Cover and steep for 10 minutes, then strain and combine with the lime juice and salt. (You can serve at this point or refrigerate the lime mixture and sugar syrup until you're ready to serve, up to a couple of days.)
Add sugar syrup to taste and serve over ice.

Black Star Pastry. Black Star Pastry needs no further introduction. The must-try item here is none other than the Strawberry Watermelon Cake, although the other pastries available on offer are certainly worth a try.
The Pie Tin. The Pie Tin sure has its art of pie down. They have a large range of sweet and savoury pies and tarts available, and if you have a particular flavour you are hankering after, be sure to give them a call to enquire beforehand, because these pies sure do run out fast!
Makmak Macarons. Voted as Sydney’s best macarons in 2012, MakMak Macarons have come a long way since their establishment in April 2010. Macarons are $3.50 each, and there are at least a dozen different flavours available at any time.
Gigi Pizzeria. If you are looking for authentic Neapolitan pizza in Sydney, head to Gigi Pizzeria. It is one of 12 pizzerias in Australia certified by the Associazone Verace Pizza Napoletana.
Hartsyard. Hartsyard is yet another place in Newtown which does its American southern fried chicken perfectly (in addition to Mary’s). It is a high-end restaurant with a strong American influence.
