NATURAL FRUIT TREE BUG REPELLENT

Natural Fruit Tree Bug Repellent image

This is a very simple and easy solution to keeping your fruit bug-free. It is an old concoction from my MIL that has done wonders for our apple trees!

Provided by Rachie P

Categories     Homeopathy/Remedies

Time 3m

Yield 1 solution, 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

3/4 cup water
1 cup white vinegar
1 cup sugar
2 banana peel

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in an empty gallon-sized jug with the top cut off.
  • Hang one solution in each of your fruit bearing trees - works at its best if you begin the treatments before the trees blossom.
  • Continue to use the treatment until the end of the fruit bearing season, replacing as often as neccesary.
  • (rain water will dilute the solution, and lots of bug will too - check it every few days).

5 ORGANIC WAYS TO FOIL FRUIT TREE PESTS - GROWVEG.COM

From growveg.com
  • Protect Against Winter Moth Using Glue Bands. Not all moths fly, which is why glue bands and tree barrier glues are very effective measures against destructive caterpillars.
  • Winter Wash Fruit Trees. Aphids are regular visitors to my apple trees every autumn, congregating on the leaves before they fall and laying their eggs in the branches.
  • Expose Overwintering Insect Pests. Some pests will overwinter in leaf litter or in the soil around your fruit trees so they can be near to their food source when spring comes around.
  • Prevent Ring-barking by Rabbits and Other Rodents. Tree bark is often nibbled by hungry rabbits, voles and other rodents. If they manage to strip off the bark all the way around the trunk (known as ‘ring-barking’ or ‘girdling’), this prevents carbohydrates from photosynthesis being transported to the roots, and is usually fatal.
  • Encourage Pest Predators. The larvae of lacewings, ladybeetles and hoverflies are voracious pest-munchers. Weather permitting, the period between autumn and spring is a good time to establish more nectar-rich perennial flowers to attract these and other pest predators.
