Learn to make a classic Mexican beer cocktail with tomato juice, hot sauce, and lime juice that you can sip all day long at the beach.

Coarse salt
2 lime wedges
2 ounces tomato juice (canned, bottled, or fresh)
1 ounce fresh lime juice
1/2 ounce hot sauce
1/4 ounce Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon Tajín Clásico
1 bottle (12 ounces) pale lager, such as Corona Extra, chilled

Steps:

  • Place about 1/4 cup salt on a small plate. Rub the rim of a Collins or pint glass (or a 16-ounce Solo cup-no need to get fancy) with one of the lime wedges to moisten it, then dip the rim in the salt to coat.
  • Combine the tomato juice, lime juice, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Tajín, and a pinch of salt in a small bowl and mix.
  • Fill the prepared glass about three-quarters full with ice cubes and add the tomato juice mixture. Top with beer and garnish with the remaining lime wedge.

Steps:

  • Place coarse salt in a shallow dish; run a lime wedge around rims of 2 cocktail glasses. Dip rims of glasses into salt, shaking off excess. Fill each glass with ice. In a small pitcher, combine hot sauce, Maggi seasoning, Worcestershire sauce and lime juice. Add beer. Pour into glasses over ice. Garnish with lime wedges. Serve immediately.

This recipe may sound a bit odd, but this is the best beer cocktail I have ever had. Very refreshing on a hot summer afternoon. Bet you can't drink just one. If you have sangrita, use it in place of the steak sauce.

1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle Mexican beer
½ teaspoon steak sauce
1 dash cayenne pepper
1 dash black pepper
1 pinch dried oregano

  • Moisten the rim of a large beer glass, then press it into salt. Place a few ice cubes in bottom of glass, followed by the lime juice. Pour in half of the beer, then season with steak sauce, cayenne pepper, black pepper, oregano and basil. Slowly pour in the remaining beer. Stir.

Mexican lager (we used Corona)
Tabasco sauce or Worcestershire sauce, to serve (optional)

Steps:

  • Pour 4 tbsp sea salt onto a plate. Dip 4 long glasses into the juice of 6 limes, then into the salt, so you get a little salt rim around the top of the glass. Put some ice into each glass, then divide the lime juice between the glasses and top up with lager. Finish with a dash of Tabasco or Worcestershire sauce if you like.

1/4 cup coarse salt (for the rim)
1 cup ice cubes (or coarsely crushed ice )
1/4 cup fresh-squeezed lime juice
1 to 2 dashes bottled hot chili sauce (such as Tabasco, Tapatio, or Cholula)
1 to 2 dashes soy sauce
1 to 2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
1 bottle beer (cold, preferably a dark Mexican beer )
Garnish: 1 lime wedge

Steps:

  • Spread a layer of salt on a saucer. Wet the rim of a chilled beer mug or large glass by running a lime wedge around it. Dip the rim of the glass in the salt, rolling it around to cover the entire circumference.
  • Fill the glass about halfway with ice, then add the lime juice, chili sauce, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir to combine all of the ingredients.
  • Slowly pour the beer into the glass. Balance the lime wedge on the edge of the glass and serve the beer cocktail immediately.

1 lime, zested and cut in half
1 tablespoon coarse salt
1/2 cup low-sodium tomato juice
1 teaspoon minced chipotle peppers in adobo sauce
Ice
1 12-ounce bottle lager beer

Steps:

  • Stir together the lime zest and salt in a small saucer. Cut lime in half and rub cut side over the rim of 2 pint glasses. Dip the rims in the lime salt to coat.
  • Fill the glasses two thirds full with ice. Squeeze the halved limes over ice and drop rinds into the glass. Divide the tomato juice, chipotle peppers, and lager between glasses. Stir and serve immediately.
