MeeMaws Apple Butter image

This is a twist on an old hand-me-down recipe my mother came up with; it's a family favorite! It doesn't last around momma's house! I was so happy when she gave me a copy of it to take with me when I moved across the country, and I feel like its too good and too easy not to share! Tastes great on toast, biscuits, and (my favorite) waffles!

16 cups unsweetened applesauce
4 cups white sugar
1 cup apple cider vinegar
4 teaspoons ground cinnamon, or more to taste

Steps:

  • Stir applesauce, white sugar, apple cider vinegar, and cinnamon together in a pot, stirring frequently; cook at a boil until the mixture is thick enough to heap in a spoon, about 90 minutes.

Apples, maple syrup and cinnamon are microwaved, then pureed, for quick and easy apple butter that's great on any fresh baked good, or sandwich.

2 lbs chopped apples
1/3 cup maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • In a microwave safe bowl, combine apples, maple syrup and cinnamon.
  • Microwave on high for 15 minutes. Transfer mixture to a blender and process until smooth. Return mixture to bowl and microwave 5 minutes more. Cool and transfer to a jar. Store in refrigerator.

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 -4 granny smith apples, quartered (about 2Â 1/2 lbs)
enough water to cover pot apple
2 tablespoons whole cloves
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup butter, room temperature

Steps:

  • Cut apples in quarters (skins, stems and seeds can stay on).
  • Place in medium saucepan and add water to cover apples completely.
  • Add cloves and apple cider vinegar.
  • Bring to boil over high heat, then reduce to a simmer. Cook apples until soft, 15-20 minutes.
  • Drain water from pan. Transfer to a medium strainer or food mill. Push through strainer or mill, back into saucepan. You should have the consistency of applesauce. Discard stems, skins, seeds and cloves.
  • Add brown sugar and cook over low heat, stirring occasionally for 2 hours to reduce consistency.
  • Add room-temperature butter and stir until butter is melted.
  • Pour into separate container and chill before serving.
