These tasty meatballs will disappear quickly from anyone's holiday party. My mom makes them every year for New Years Eve, and now so do I. These do very well in a slow cooker, as you can simmer them before serving, as well as keep them hot for the duration of your party.

1 pound lean ground beef
1 egg
2 tablespoons water
½ cup bread crumbs
3 tablespoons minced onion
1 (8 ounce) can jellied cranberry sauce
¾ cup chili sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 ½ teaspoons lemon juice

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, egg, water, bread crumbs, and minced onion. Roll into small meatballs.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, turning once.
  • In a slow cooker or large saucepan over low heat, blend the cranberry sauce, chili sauce, brown sugar, and lemon juice. Add meatballs, and simmer for 1 hour before serving.

1 jar (9 ounces) mango chutney
3/4 cup A.1. steak sauce
1/2 cup chili sauce
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
1 package (32 ounces) frozen fully cooked homestyle meatballs, thawed

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, mix the first six ingredients; cook and stir over medium heat until blended. Add meatballs; cook, covered, 15-20 minutes or until heated through, stirring occasionally.

2 cups fresh made breadcrumbs
2 eggs
3/4 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons oregano
1/2 cup chopped parsley
1 teaspoon salt and pepper
1 (17 ounce) jar chutney
2 pints sour cream

Steps:

  • Combine sausage, breadcrumbs, eggs, cheese, oregano, parsley, salt and pepper.
  • Shape into small cocktail size balls (about 100).
  • Arrange on greased cookie sheet and bake at 400°F in a preheated oven for 10 minutes.
  • While the meat balls are cooking, combine chutney and sour cream in a food processor until mixed but still lumpy.
  • Heat sauce until hot, add meatballs and transfer to a chafing dish.

1 small onion, finely chopped
Kosher salt
1 1/2 teaspoons curry powder
3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
Vegetable oil, for greasing baking sheet
1 pound ground beef
1 cup Greek yogurt
2 tablespoons panko breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons tamarind chutney, plus more for serving
1 teaspoon paprika
1/8 teaspoon cayenne, optional
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
2 tablespoons finely chopped cilantro
Bibb or green leaf lettuce, torn into 4-inch pieces, for serving
1/4 cup finely grated cucumber, for garnish

Steps:

  • Cook's Note: If tamarind chutney is unavailable, you can substitute apple butter with a bit of lemon juice and cayenne stirred in.
  • 1. Melt the butter in a small skillet over medium heat and cook the onions, stirring occasionally, until soft, about 5 minutes. Add 1/4 teaspoon salt, the curry powder and two-thirds of the garlic and continue cooking, stirring, until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Transfer the mixture to a large bowl and let cool.
  • 2. Lightly oil a rimmed baking sheet. Add the beef, 1/4 cup of the yogurt, the breadcrumbs, tamarind chutney, paprika, cayenne , if using, 1 1/4 teaspoons salt and the eggs to the onion mixture. Combine the ingredients using your hands. Form into 1 1/4- inch balls, rolling them lightly between your hands to shape. Place on the oiled baking sheet, cover loosely with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  • 3. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Bake the meatballs until browned, about 20 minutes.
  • 4. Meanwhile, stir together the remaining 3/4 cup yogurt, remaining garlic, 1/2 teaspoon salt and cilantro in a small bowl. Arrange each meatball on top of a piece of lettuce on a platter. Top with grated cucumber and a bit of tamarind chutney and serve with the yogurt dipping sauce.
