- Chop the apples and place them in a 8- × 8-inch baking pan. Cover the chopped apples with the maple syrup and sprinkle some pumpkin pie spice to taste over them.
- In a bowl, mix the flour and oatmeal. Then add the applesauce and brown sugar. Mix until the flour is just moistened.
- Spread the oatmeal mixture on top of the apples.
- Bake for 30 minutes. Let it sit in the oven for another 5 minutes.

- In a medium bowl, prepare the topping: Stir together the oats, nuts, almond meal, coconut, cinnamon, and salt. Drizzle the oil and maple syrup over the top, then use a spatula to combine until the dry ingredients are evenly moistened. Sprinkle the topping over the filling.
