Categories     Dessert

Time 20m

1 pouch clear jelly powder (gulaman/agar agar) (- (25g) see Note 1 for gelatin powder)

1 small can sweetened condensed milk (- (168ml per can))
2 packs all-purpose cream (- (250ml per pack))

COFFEE JELLO RECIPE - (3.6/5)

Coffee Jello Recipe - (3.6/5) image

Provided by Storie

Number Of Ingredients 4

1/2 c cold water
2 cups strong coffee, hot. I used two packages of Starbucks Via. The coffee needs to be strong. This isn't the time for Sanka instant. :)
1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated milk)
3 packages of Knox unflavored gelatin

Steps:

  • 1. Place 1/2 c cold water in a bowl. 2. Sprinkle 3 unflavored gelatin packets over the water. Let sit until the gelatin blooms, about 10 minutes. 3. Stir in the hot coffee and mix until the gelatin is completely dissolved. 4. Stir in the can of sweetened condensed milk. 5. Pour into glass pan. Thickness of finished jello depends on the size of the pan. I used a 7 x 11 pan but a 9 x 13 pan will give you thinner pieces and an 8 x 8 pan will give you thicker pieces. Note: The combo of coffee and sweetened condensed milk is inspired by Vietnamese coffee. You can probably adapt this to use coffee or espresso, cream and sugar (be sure to dissolve the sugar in the hot coffee and gelatin). I find that 1 packet of unflavored gelatin will firm up 1 1/2 cups of liquid to finger jello "strength" (according to David Lebovitz's "How to Use Gelatin" post you can mold 2 cups with one envelope - but I feel finger jello needs to be stronger).

THE KNOX BLOX I REMEMBER

The Knox Blox I Remember image

My family was outraged when I recently banned premade Jello cups from our house. Enough already with the new convenient society, how hard is it to make Jello? To appease the rioting horde, I promised them I would make the best Jello they'd ever had, Jello they could pick up, the Knox Box I used to eat when I was a kid. Finding the super simple recipe was harder than I thought it would be, but I looked and looked and this is what I remember from my childhood. (The new Jello Jigglers don't cut it for me; they taste too much like gummy bears.) I'm surprised this isn't already on Zaar, but now it is!

Enjoy and old-fashioned favorite. I have loved Knox blocks since I was a kid and was surprised to not see a recipe here. So I thought I would add one. For those who don't know what Knox Blocks are they are the original Jello Jigglers and I think a little more tasty.

  • Make the coffee the way you normally would at home. The goal is to wind up with 1 3/4 cups of strong coffee. For me, I used 8 Tbls. French Roast to 2 cups of water. Set aside.
  • Grab your gelatin. I used regular old, unflavored Knox gelatin. You can find this in the baking aisle of most major U.S. grocery stores.
  • Put the water in a large bowl. Toss in the gelatin. Give it a stir to mix. It should immediately start to thicken and suck up the water. Let it sit for about 10 minutes. (This process is called “blooming” the gelatin. Basically, you’re rehydrating it.)
