THE BEST CHEAP BEER BRANDS RANKED [WE TESTED 28!]
From tasteofhome.com
Author Lisa Kaminski
- Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) Brewer: Pabst Brewing Company. ABV: 4.7% Back in 1893, Pabst was awarded the title of America’s finest beer. Today, we’re pleased to call it our favorite affordable beer, definitely deserving of a blue ribbon.
- Coors Banquet. Brewer: MillerCoors. ABV: 5% Coors started brewing this beer back in 1873 in Golden, Colorado (where it’s still brewed today). Locals enjoyed this beer so much they started referring to it as “Banquet Beer.”
- Schlitz. Brewer: Pabst Brewing Company. ABV: 4.6% Many of the beers in this test were lighter with a mild flavor (totally fine by us!) , but Schlitz delivered something totally different.
- Hamm’s. Brewer: MillerCoors. ABV: 4.6% Looking for an unpretentious and satisfying beer? Opt for Hamm’s. “Born in the land of sky blue waters” as the jingle goes (that’s Minnesota), Hamm’s is clean tasting with mild sweetness and a bit of malt.
- Coors Light. Brewer: MillerCoors. ABV: 4.2% “It’s the perfect summer beer,” according to one tester, and we’d say that’s a fair assessment. Coors Light is crisp, refreshing and goes down easy.
- Icehouse. Brewer: MillerCoors. ABV: 5.5% Icehouse cracking into the top was pretty shocking for us beer aficionados. Who knew a budget beer could be so satisfying?
- Old Milwaukee. Brewer: Pabst Brewing Company. ABV: 4.6% Like its sister beers Blatz and Old Style (all brewed by the same company), you might expect Old Milwaukee to be an old-fashioned brew.
- Miller Lite. Brewer: MillerCoors. ABV: 4.2% As one tester put it, “This is a classic boat beer,” and it’s true. With its light body, slight hint of citrus and refreshing taste, Miller Lite is the perfect brew to pack in the cooler for a day on the water.
- Old Style. Brewer: Pabst Brewing Company. ABV: 5% Old Style is a staple in the Midwest. It was first brewed in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 1902 and later became a go-to for Cubs fans.
- Blatz. Brewer: Pabst Brewing Company. ABV: 4.9% While Blatz sounds like the kind of beer Grandpa would drink (and he may have—Blatz has been around since 1851!)
THE 8 BEST LIGHT BEERS, BLIND TASTED AND RANKED
From uproxx.com
- Coors Light — Taste 3. ABV: 4.2% Average Price: $7 for a six-pack. Coors Light is advertised as “cold as the Rockies.” This 4.2 percent ABV light beer gets its flavor from being cold lagered below freezing.
- Natural Light — Taste 6. ABV: 4.2% Average Price: $5.50 for a six-pack of 16-ounce cans. If there is such a thing, Natural Light is the light beer for young drinkers.
- Busch Light — Taste 8. ABV: 4.3% Average Price: $6 for a six-pack of 16-ounce cans. You don’t have to “head for the mountains” to enjoy a Busch or Busch Light, but it would probably be a good idea to be really thirsty when you drink one.
- Miller Lite — Taste 1. ABV: 4.2% Average Price: $7 for a six-pack. Miller Lite’s whole existence (at least in terms of commercials) has been to convince drinkers that it’s “less filling and tastes great” and is a better option than other light beers.
- Amstel Light — Taste 5. ABV: 3.5% Average Price: $9 for a six-pack. Amstel Light is a bit of a mystery to me. I’ve never purchased a six-pack or ordered it at a bar, but it seems like the only beer you can find at a golf course.
- Bud Light — Taste 4. ABV: 4.2% Average Price: $7 for a six-pack. There’s no light beer more well known than Bud Light. You can’t watch a televised sporting event without seeing at least five Bud Light commercials.
- Michelob Ultra — Taste 7. ABV: 4.2% Average Price: $7.50 for a six-pack. Launched in 2002, this beer was created for athletes and healthy drinkers who want to drink a low carb, low-alcohol, low-calorie beer.
- Keystone Light — Taste 2. ABV: 4.1% Average Price: $11 for a fifteen-pack. You might have heard news months ago about the demise of Keystone. Luckily, the brand only dropped Keystone Ice and some other lesser versions.
