RAINBOW KETTLE CORN RECIPE BY TASTY

Rainbow Kettle Corn Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: sugar, red gel food coloring, orange gel food coloring, yellow gel food coloring, green gel food coloring, blue food coloring, purple gel food coloring, coconut oil, white popcorn kernels, kosher salt

Provided by Rie McClenny

Categories     Snacks

Time 40m

Yield 10 cups

Number Of Ingredients 10

12 tablespoons sugar, divided
red gel food coloring
orange gel food coloring
yellow gel food coloring
green gel food coloring
blue food coloring
purple gel food coloring
6 teaspoons coconut oil, divided
12 tablespoons white popcorn kernels, divided, plus 12 kernels
1 ½ teaspoons kosher salt, divided

Steps:

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Divide the sugar evenly between 6 small bowls, 2 tablespoons per bowl.
  • Dye each bowl of sugar a different color by adding 1-2 drops of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple food coloring. Stir each bowl with a clean fork until the sugars are sandy in texture. Note: We recommend gel food coloring, as the colors are more stable. Only use 1-2 drops; a little goes a long way.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of coconut oil and 2 popcorn kernels to a medium nonstick saucepan with a lid. Cover and place over medium-high heat. Once the kernels pop, reduce the heat to medium and add 2 tablespoons of popcorn kernels and 1 bowl of colored sugar. Immediately cover the pan and shake to combine. Cook, shaking the pan constantly to ensure that the sugar doesn't burn, while the popcorn pops. Once the pops are more than 3 seconds apart, remove the pot from heat. Carefully remove the lid away from your body and pour the popcorn onto the prepared baking sheet.
  • Evenly sprinkle ¼ teaspoon salt over the hot kettle corn. Let the popcorn cool completely, transfer to a bowl. Repeat with the remaining colors, replacing the parchment paper as needed.
  • Combine all of the popcorn in a large bowl. Toss to distribute the colors evenly. Serve immediately, or store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • Enjoy!

GRILLED KETTLE CORN

Grilled Kettle Corn image

The key to caramelized and very lightly charred popcorn is to keep shaking the pan as it cooks so the sugar doesn't have a chance to burn before the kernels start to pop. Since the popcorn packet is sealed, it doesn't absorb much smokey flavor, but you can add a gentle hint with a sprinkle of smoked salt after opening the foil.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Time 20m

Yield 2 to 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 5

1/3 cup popcorn kernels
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 teaspoons sugar
3/4 teaspoon fine salt
Smoked sea salt, for sprinkling

Steps:

  • Preheat a grill to medium high. (If using a charcoal grill, make sure that the coals are several inches below the grate.)
  • Combine the popcorn, vegetable oil, sugar and fine salt in an 8- to 9-inch round disposable aluminum cake pan and stir to coat. Tear off two 18-inch-long sheets of heavy-duty foil. Crimp the end of one sheet around the rim of the pan on one side, then crimp the other end of the foil on the opposite side of the pan, leaving 5 to 6 inches of room above the kernels so they have room to pop. Rotate the pan 90 degrees and repeat to crimp the second sheet of foil onto the pan, perpendicular to the first, making sure that the entire edge is well sealed. The foil should create a dome over the top of the pan.
  • Once the grill registers 350˚ F to 375˚ F, put the pan on the grill. Wait until you hear sizzling, about 2 minutes, then, using tongs, start shaking the pan frequently until the popcorn starts to pop, 3 to 5 minutes (it's important to keep the pan moving so the sugar doesn't burn before the kernels start to pop). Continue to cook, shaking almost constantly, until the popping subsides, 3 to 5 more minutes.
  • Remove the pan from the heat and let stand a few minutes. Carefully cut an X into the top of the foil and peel back the layers to expose the popcorn. Sprinkle with smoked sea salt. The popcorn will feel slightly sticky at first but will become crisp as it cools.

KETTLE CORN IN A WHIRLEY POP

Kettle Corn in a Whirley Pop image

This version is light and airy, with just a touch of ethereal sweetness and saltiness. By playing with the proportions, I hit upon this recipe that rivals the addictive Kettle Corn we paid a fortune for at fairs and such! It was created after I tried the recipe in the Whirley-pop instruction booklet, and found it tough, gloppy, and also a very small batch. See also my Whirley Pop Notes below the recipe.

Provided by Dories Lori

Categories     Dessert

Time 7m

Yield 6 quarts, 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 tablespoons oil
1/2 cup popcorn
3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt, scant

Steps:

  • Note that this recipe's cooking method is for a gas stove. You might have to monkey with the heat a bit on an electric one.
  • Add all ingredients to the Whirley pop, and pop, using, on average, a medium heat: alternate between a lower flame and a high one. This is in order to send the heat to the outside edges, which is where the popper sends the popcorn!
  • Be sure to remove from the heat quickly when the popping slows. Empty immediately into a big bowl, and stir around with a big spoon and/or your hands to break apart the kernals. (Careful - it's hot!).
  • For an easier cleanup, put some water and a squirt of soap immediately into the popper to soak.
  • After it has cooled thoroughly, keep in an air-tight container to prevent sogginess.
  • Whirley Pop Notes:.
  • I actually purchased mine because, try as I might, I just couldn't make great Kettle Corn in a pot on top of the stove. I tried a number of recipes. They all came out tough, and never fully popped, and the sugar always burned. And I am a pretty patient cook! To make matters worse, the cleanup of burnt sugar on my stainless pots was a significant chore!
  • So, I bought a Whirley-pop. With all the great reviews on-line, I knew I would come to love it. I was right! It makes great popcorn, all kinds! Bonus is that you can use less oil than cooking in a pot, like only 2 teaspoons per 1/2 cup batch.
  • So, this recipe is for a Whirley Pop, as I haven't personally had any success in a regular pot. If you don't have one yet, and you make popcorn a lot, I highly recommend one! Although they are mostly a "single-use" item, they are only about $23. And, personally, I recommend this Kettle Corn recipe over the one in the book.

KETTLE CORN (MICROWAVE)

Kettle Corn (Microwave) image

This is a variation of Alton Brown's microwave popcorn recipe. You will need a brown paper lunch bag, a stapler, two staples from said stapler, and the cajones to do something you have been told to never do. Put metal in the microwave box of death! I promise that if you only use TWO NORMAL size staples, your microwave wont blow up, catch fire, or send you back in time so you could accidentally become your own grandparent. The wavelength of a microwave is larger than a average staple, so it wont spark, but it will get really freaking hot, so be careful. Oh, it taste great .

Provided by ROV Chef

Categories     < 15 Mins

Time 3m

Yield 4-5 cups popped popcorn, 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1/4 cup popcorn (unpopped)
1 tablespoon sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt (popcorn salt if you have it)
2 teaspoons vegetable oil

Steps:

  • mix everything in a small bowl.
  • pour everything into the small brown paper bag.
  • fold top over twice. (Maybe three times if you have the larger size lunch bags).
  • put two staples through fold at least two inches apart.
  • Microwave on high for at least two minutes. You may have to play around with the time a little. If you microwave has a "popcorn" button, try that, but listen for when the popping slows down.
  • when it's done, carefully open the bag, watching for the steam, and dump into a bowl. The bag will be an oily mess, so you don't want to eat out of it.

JADE'S KETTLE CORN

Jade's Kettle Corn image

Jade and I love to snack on popcorn! This sweet-and-salty twist comes together just as quickly as regular popcorn and packages really nicely for cute holiday gifts, if Jade and I can stop eating it.

Provided by Giada De Laurentiis

Categories     appetizer

Time 15m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 tablespoons coconut oil or vegetable oil
1/2 cup popcorn kernels
1/4 cup sugar

Steps:

  • Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. In a small bowl, mix together the salt and cinnamon. Set aside.
  • Heat a large Dutch oven, covered, over medium-high heat for 2 to 3 minutes. Add the coconut oil and heat 30 seconds. To check if the Dutch oven is hot enough, add one or two popcorn kernels to the pan and cover with the lid. Cook until you hear the kernels pop, 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Add the remaining kernels and the sugar, stir to combine and cover. Shake the pan vigorously to coat the kernels in the sugar and oil. Cook, shaking the pan often, until the popping has slowed to about 2 pops per second, about 2 minutes.
  • Remove the Dutch oven from the heat and carefully uncover. Pour the mixture onto the prepared pan and sprinkle with the cinnamon salt. Be careful: the popcorn is extremely hot at this point. Allow the kettle corn to cool for 5 minutes before enjoying.

KETTLE CORN

Number Of Ingredients 3

¼ cup vegetable oil
¼ cup white sugar

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. Heat the oil over medium high heat. Add 3 kernels of popcorn to a heavy bottomed stainless steel pan with high sides and cover. Listen carefully for the kernels to pop.
  • Once the 3 kernels pop, add the remaining popcorn kernels in a single, even layer. Sprinkle with the sugar, cover and remove from the heat for 30 seconds to bring the kernels to a near popping temperature.
  • Return the covered pan to medium high heat. The kernels should begin to pop – keep shaking and turn the heat down to medium. You should hear almost constant popping, keep shaking the pan every 10-15 seconds, keeping the lid slightly ajar to let out steam so the popcorn stays dry and crispy.
  • Once the popping slows to several seconds between pops, remove from the heat and remove the lid. Pour the popcorn onto the prepared baking sheet and sprinkle with salt.

IS KETTLE CORN HEALTHY? 9 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW – I AM ...

From iamgoingvegan.com
  • What Is Kettle Corn Made Of? Let’s start by looking at actual kettle corn ingredients. Then we can analyze those ingredients in more depth. I checked the ingredients for four popular brands of pre-popped kettle corn.
  • Is There a Lot of Sugar in Kettle Corn? Kettle corn has around 7 to 8 grams of added sugar per 28-gram serving. This is about the same sugar as one half banana in 2 cups of kettle corn.
  • Is Kettle Corn Popcorn a Carb? Kettle corn is rich in carbohydrates. Some kettle corn brands have about half of the calories coming from fat (from sunflower oil).
  • How Much Sodium Is in Kettle Corn? Kettle corn has about 100 to 150 milligrams of sodium in each 2 cup serving. This is about the same sodium content as a handful of salted nuts.
  • Is Kettle Corn Good for Weight Loss? Kettle corn has more calories per cup than regular popcorn, due to added sugar. This means kettle corn is not as good for weight loss compared to regular popcorn.
  • Is Kettle Corn Vegan? Kettle corn is typically vegan. Out of all 7 popular brands of kettle corn I checked, all seven were vegan. They contain no dairy, egg, honey, or other animal products.
  • Is Microwave Kettle Corn Healthy? Microwave kettle corn is often sugar free, but unfortunately, it contains the controversial artificial sweetener sucralose instead.
  • Can You Eat Too Much Kettle Corn? If you eat too much kettle corn, you’ll be getting a lot of processed ingredients in your diet. Every serving of kettle corn typically has around 8 grams of sugar.
  • What Is the Healthiest Kind of Popcorn? The healthiest kind of popcorn is air-popped popcorn without oil. By not using oil, air-popped popcorn only has about 30 calories and less than 1 gram of fat per cup.

KETTLE CORN (GLUTEN FREE VEGAN) - PETITE ALLERGY TREATS
Kettle corn, like so many other favorite foods has been necessary to replicate.
