8 medium peeled apples, cut into 1-inch chunks that are 1/4 - 1/2 inch thick (about 10 cups chunks)
1/2 cup (100g) packed light or dark brown sugar
1/4 cup (31g) all-purpose flour (spoon & leveled)
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup (94g) all-purpose flour (spoon & leveled)
3/4 cup (150g) packed light or dark brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup (1 stick; 115g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
1 cup (80g) old-fashioned whole oats
optional: salted caramel and vanilla ice cream for serving

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking pan. Any 4 quart baking dish works.
  • Mix all of the filling ingredients together in a large bowl, then spread into the baking pan.
  • Whisk the flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon together in a medium bowl. Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture becomes super crumbly. Stir in the oats. Sprinkle over filling.
  • Bake for 45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit juices are bubbling around the edges. Remove from the oven, place on a wire rack, and allow to cool for at least 5 minutes before serving. Serve warm, room temperature, or cold- plain or with salted caramel and/or vanilla ice cream.
  • Cover leftovers and store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

5 cups fresh apples, (sliced)
1/2 cup granulated white sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/3 cup old fashioned oats
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, (melted)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a deep dish pie plate or large baking dish with butter or cooking spray and set aside.
  • Combine the sliced apples with the sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract in a large bowl and mix until all of the apples are evenly coated. Pour into the prepared baking dish.
  • In a separate medium size bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Pour in the melted butter and stir until well coated and crumbly. Sprinkle the crumb mixture evenly over the top of the apples.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45-60 minutes until fruit is soft and the topping is golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream on top. Enjoy!

Unsalted butter, for greasing the pan
3/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup apple cider
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
2 pounds Granny Smith apples
2 pounds Honeycrisp apples
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (see Cook's Note)
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
2/3 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup pecans, coarsely chopped
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
2 sticks (1 cup) cold unsalted butter, cubed

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
  • For the filling: Whisk together the brown sugar, flour, apple cider, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in a large bowl. Peel and core the apples and cut into chunks. Add the apples to the brown sugar mixture and toss to combine.
  • Transfer the apple mixture to the prepared baking dish in an even layer.
  • For the topping: Combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, pecans, cinnamon and salt in a medium bowl. Add the butter cubes and use your fingers to completely work the butter into the flour mixture. The mixture should hold its shape when squeezed.
  • Sprinkle the crumble topping over the filling, squeezing some of the mixture into small clumps. Bake until the filling is bubbly, the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown, about 1 hour.
  • Let sit for at least 45 minutes and serve slightly warm or at room temperature.

4 cups apples, peeled and sliced
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/3 cup flour, sifted
1 cup oats
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/3 cup butter, melted

Steps:

  • Place apples in greased baking dish and sprinkle with lemon juice.
  • Combine dry ingredients, add melted butter. Sprinkle crumb mixture over apples.
  • Bake at 375 for 30 minutes.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream and whipped topping!
  • Also try with peaches.

4 lbs firm-crisp apples (11-12 medium apples*)
2 Tbsp lemon juice
3/4 cup granulated sugar (or to taste**)
3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 3/4 cups flour
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup rolled oats (or old fashioned oats)

Steps:

  • Prep: Generously Butter a 9x13 casserole dish with 1/2 Tbsp butter. Preheat the oven to 375F.
  • Peel core and thinly slice apples to 1/4' thickness. You should have 12 cups of sliced apples. Squeeze 2 Tbsp lemon juice over the apples and toss to coat.
  • In a separate bowl, stir together 3/4 cup sugar, 3 Tbsp flour, and 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon then sprinkle mixture over apples and toss to combine. Transfer apples into the buttered casserole dish.
  • Make the topping - in a large bowl, use your hands to stir together flour, oats, brown and granulated sugars, cinnamon, and salt. Add the diced butter and work it into the mixture with your hands until pea-sized crumbs form throughout. Spread topping over apples.
  • Bake at 375˚F for 45-50 minutes or until the topping is golden and crisp and apples are bubbling at the edges. The center should register above 175˚F.

Try this moreish apple crisp. 'Crisp' is the American version of a crumble, with the topping a mix between a nutty flapjack and a traditional British crumble.

100g plain flour
50g rolled oats
50g flaked almonds or chopped pecans
100g butter, cut into cubes
50g light muscovado sugar
½tsp ground cinnamon
vanilla ice cream or custard, to serve
8 Cox's or Russet apples, peeled, cored and sliced into 5mm-thick rounds
50g golden caster sugar
½ lemon, zested and juiced

Steps:

  • Put all the topping ingredients and a pinch of sea salt in a bowl and rub together with your fingers until combined into a crumb-like texture - this can also be done in a food processor. Chill until needed. Will keep chilled for up to two days.
  • Toss the apples with the sugar and lemon zest and juice until evenly coated, and tip into a 23cm round baking dish that's at least 5cm deep, or a 20cm square dish. Flatten down with your hand and scatter over the topping. Will keep covered and chilled for a day.
  • Heat the oven to 190C/170C fan/ gas 5. Sit the crisp on a baking tray and bake for 40 mins until the topping is a deep golden and the fruit is bubbling at the edges. Leave to cool for 10 mins, then serve with ice cream or custard.
