10-Minute Honey Barbecue Grilled Shrimp image

Fast, EASY, healthy, and the perfect way to enjoy barbecue shrimp!! Tender, juicy, and full of such great FLAVOR from the barbecue sauce and honey

Provided by Averie Sunshine

Categories     Seafood

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/3 cup your favorite barbecue sauce
1/3 cup honey
2 to 4 cloves garlic, finely minced or pressed
1 to 3 tablespoons sriracha or chili garlic sauce, optional and to taste if you prefer some spiciness
1 to 1.25 pounds fresh shrimp, cleaned and deveined (I use U20 shrimp, with tails still on; you can use larger shrimp or shrimp without tails on if desired)
2 tablespoons olive oil
salt and freshly ground black pepper, for seasoning
fresh lemon wedges, for serving
fresh cilantro or parsley, optional for garnishing

Steps:

  • To a medium bowl, add the barbecue sauce, honey, garlic, optional sriracha or chili garlic sauce, and stir to combine. Divide mixture into two bowls (one for brushing on the shrimp while grilling and the other as a dipping sauce when serving); set bowls aside.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill to medium-high heat (or indoor grill pan).
  • Thread about 5 to 6 shrimp onto one metal or wooden grilling skewer (soak wooden skewers in water for about 30 minutes prior to using); repeat the threading with all remaining shrimp.
  • Brush shrimp liberally with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
  • Grill the shrimp for about 2 minutes on the first side.
  • Flip and brush the just-grilled side with the barbecue sauce mixture from one of the bowls.
  • Grill for about 2 minutes on the second side, and brush the first side with the barbecue sauce mixture. As necessary, continue to brush the shrimp with the sauce and flip every 30 to 60 seconds or until done. Note - Shrimp cook very quickly, especially on a hot grill. Keep an eye on them and do not overcook or they will become tough and rubbery. There is a difference between a little charring on the tails from the grill versus overcooking them.
  • Drizzle with lemon juice, optionally garnish with fresh cilantro or parsley, and serve immediately with the reserved dipping sauce. Shrimp are best warm and fresh.

SPICY GRILLED SHRIMP (GOCHUJANG SAEWU GUI)

Spicy Grilled Shrimp (Gochujang Saewu Gui) image

Easy spicy grilled shrimp flavored with a gochujang sauce!

Provided by Hyosun

Categories     Main     Main Course

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 pound large or jumbo shrimp (peeled, tail on, and deveined)
salt and pepper
For the marinade:
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon minced garlic (or more to taste)
juice of 1/2 of a fresh lemon (about 2 tablespoons)
2 tablespoons gochujang
1 tablespoon sugar or honey
For the garnish:
finely chopped scallions or chives for garnish (optional)
Bamboo/wood skewers

Steps:

  • Soak the wooden skewers in water while preparing the shrimp. Peel and devein the shrimp if they are shell-on. Rinse the shrimp and drain well (or pat dry). Thread 3 or 4 shrimps on to the skewers. Lightly sprinkle them with salt and pepper.
  • Mix all the marinade ingredients well in a bowl.
  • Spoon (or brush) the marinade all over the shrimp to coat evenly. Let stand for about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat a lightly oiled grill. Grill the shrimp over moderate heat until they turn opaque and curled up, a minute or two each side, depending on the heat source. Do not overcook. Baste the shrimp with the remaining sauce while grilling and before serving. You can also cook the shrimp in a grill pan over medium high heat. Garnish with the optional scallions or chives.

GRILLED SHRIMP WITH HONEY-GINGER BARBECUE SAUCE

Grilled Shrimp With Honey-Ginger Barbecue Sauce image

Of all the ways to prepare shrimp, the grill delivers the best flavor. Although unadorned "shrimp on the barbie" are great, an easily assembled gingery barbecue sauce makes them that much better. You can save time by buying already shelled and deveined shrimp, but our recipe developer, Alexis Touchet, who grew up in shrimp country in southwest Louisiana, thinks shell-on shrimp are better quality. Depending on where you live and what's in your market, you may not have much choice. Freshness trumps all, so don't hesitate to use your nose in deciding which shrimp to buy.

Yield Makes 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

Sauce:
Honey-Ginger Barbecue Sauce
Shrimp:
4 pounds jumbo (21-25 per pound) or extra-large (26-30 per pound) shrimp in shell, peeled, leaving tail and adjoining shell segment intact, and deveined (See Cooks' Notes)
4 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 teaspoon salt
Special Equipment
18 to 24 (12-inch) wooden skewers (depending on size of shrimp used), soaked in water for 30 minutes

Steps:

  • For the Shrimp:
  • If necessary, pat shrimp dry, then thread about 6 shrimp (through top and tail, leaving shrimp curled), onto each skewer, without leaving space between shrimp.
  • Prepare grill for direct-heat cooking over medium-hot charcoal (medium-high for gas); see Grilling Procedure.
  • Meanwhile, brush shrimp with vegetable oil and sprinkle evenly with salt.
  • Lightly oil grill rack. Grill shrimp, covered only if using a gas grill, turning over once, 2 minutes. Brush shrimp with some sauce from the saucepan, then turn. Brush shrimp with additional sauce then grill until just cooked through, 1 to 2 minutes. Serve with reserved sauce.
