PIZZA WITH HOMEMADE SAUCE

Pizza with homemade sauce image

Make pizza for the family with a homemade base and tomato sauce. The recipe is perfect to get kids involved in cooking. Top with mozzarella and fresh basil

Provided by Lulu Grimes

Categories     Dinner

Time 50m

Yield Serves 2-4

Number Of Ingredients 8

300g strong white bread flour , plus extra for dusting
1 tsp instant yeast
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp olive oil , plus a drizzle
2 garlic cloves , crushed
200ml passata
8 mozzarella pearls , halved
small bunch fresh basil

Steps:

  • Tip the flour into a bowl, then stir in the yeast and 1 tsp salt. Make a well in the centre and pour in 200ml warm water (make sure it's not too hot) along with the oil. Stir together with a wooden spoon until you have a soft, fairly wet dough.
  • Tip the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 mins until smooth. Cover with a tea towel and set aside for an hour or so or until the dough has puffed up and doubled in size. You can also leave the rough, unkneaded dough in the bowl, cover with a tea towel and leave in the fridge overnight and the dough will continue to prove on its own.
  • Meanwhile, make the tomato sauce. Put the oil in a small pan and fry the garlic briefly (don't let it brown), then add the passata and simmer everything until the sauce thickens a little. Leave to cool.
  • Once the dough has risen, knead it quickly in the bowl to knock it back, then tip out onto a lightly floured surface and cut into two balls. Roll out each ball into a large teardrop that is very thin and about 25cm across (teardrop shapes fit baking sheets more easily than rounds).
  • Heat oven to 240C/220C fan/ gas 9 with a large baking sheet inside. Lift one of the bases onto another floured baking sheet. Smooth the sauce over the base with the back of a spoon, scatter over half the mozzarella, drizzle with olive oil and season. Put the pizza, still on its baking sheet, on top of the hot sheet in the oven and bake for 8-10 mins until crisp.

HOMEMADE THIN CRUST PIZZA (CRISPY DOUGH AND SWEET BALSAMIC SAUCE

Homemade Thin Crust Pizza (Crispy Dough and Sweet Balsamic Sauce image

Don't be scared of how long this recipe looks! It's super simple and the results are amazing! Use your favorite toppings - we like shredded chicken, roasted red peppers, fresh spinach, and mozzarella. Adapted from http://www.thekitchn.com/thekitchn/main-dish/recipe-homemade-thin-crust-pizza-045499

Provided by mikey ev

Categories     < 60 Mins

Time 55m

Yield 2 14-inch pizzas, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 16

3/4 cup water
1/2 teaspoon yeast
2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon garlic, minced
1/2 tablespoon red pepper olive oil (or red pepper flakes)
4 tablespoons sugar (divided)
1 (14 ounce) can diced tomatoes, drained
1 cup prepared tomato sauce (we used Classico Roasted Garlic)
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1/2 teaspoon basil
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1 bay leaf
salt and pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • Pre-heat your oven to 500 degrees. If you have a baking stone, put it on a rack in the lower-middle part of the oven.
  • In a small bowl or liquid measuring cup, heat the water until it feels barely lukewarm when you test it with your finger (if the water is so hot that you can't leave your finger in it, wait for it to cool down). Add the yeast to the water and use a fork or whisk to stir it into the water. Set this aside for a few minutes and allow the yeast to dissolve.
  • Measure out the flour into a large mixing bowl. Add the salt and use your hand or a whisk to combine.
  • Make a well in the center of the flour and pour in the water-yeast mixture. Use your fingers or a wooden spoon to combine everything together.
  • When it comes together into a cohesive ball, turn it out onto the counter along with any extra flour in the bowl that hasn't yet gotten worked inches.
  • Knead the dough until all the flour is incorporated and the dough is smooth and elastic to the touch--about five minutes. The dough should still feel moist and slightly tacky. If it's sticking to your hands and counter-top like bubble gum, work in more flour one tablespoon at a time until it's smooth and silky.
  • Use a bench scraper to divide the dough in two. Shape each half into a smooth ball. Set aside while preparing sauce.
  • Heat olive oil in a sauce pan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and red pepper olive oil (or a little extra olive oil, plus red pepper flakes).
  • Saute 2 minutes, or until garlic is golden. Add half of the white sugar, and allow to melt (it might start to look clumpy, don't worry and keep going).
  • Add drained tomatoes and the rest of the white sugar. Cook for 2 minutes.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients (prepared sauce, brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, basil, oregano, bay leaf, salt, and pepper). Lower heat to medium-low and simmer for 20 minutes. You can break up the tomatoes with a wooden spoon, or use an immersion blender if you prefer.
  • Work one piece of the dough in your hands and form it into a large disk. Working from the middle of the dough outwards, use the heel of your hand to gently press the dough outward until it's about 1/4 of an inch thick or less. You can also use a rolling pin for this part.
  • Repeat with the second piece of dough (or freeze it for later).
  • Place pizza dough on baking stone or baking sheet with cooking spray.
  • Spoon a few tablespoons of sauce into the center of each pizza and use the back of a spoon to spread it out to the edges. Pile on all of your toppings except the cheese.
  • Bake for about 5 minutes and then rotate the pizza 180-degrees (most ovens have 'hot spots' your pizza will bake unevenly if it's not rotated). Bake for another 3 minutes and then sprinkle the cheese over the top. Bake for another 2-3 minutes until the edges are golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove your pizza from oven and let it cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before cutting.

BASIC PIZZA SAUCE

Basic Pizza Sauce image

Provided by Food Network

Categories     main-dish

Time 40m

Yield about 3 cups, or enough for 2

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 can (28-ounces) whole peeled tomatoes, in juice
1 small white or sweet onion, finely diced and minced
1 clove garlic, peeled and minced
3 to 4 fresh basil leaves
1 teaspoon dried oregano
Pinch salt
Pinch fresh ground black pepper
Pinch sugar, optional
2 tablespoons olive oil, to saute

Steps:

  • Empty the contents of the tomato can in a mixing bowl and coarsely crush the tomatoes with a fork or your hands, leaving them just a little chunky. In a heavy bottom 2-quart saucepot, add the olive oil, over a medium high flame and heat a little. Add the onions and saute until slightly translucent. Add the garlic and saute about a minute until golden. Quickly add the crushed tomatoes to the mix. Stir well and bring to a simmer. Season with salt and pepper, to taste, and add the fresh basil and oregano. You can add a touch of sugar if desired or if tomatoes are tart. Simmer on a low flame, stirring often for at least 15 minutes. If not using right away, cool down and store in airtight container in the refrigerator, up to 1 week.

PIZZA WITH GARLIC AND OLIVE OIL

Pizza with Garlic and Olive Oil image

Categories     Garlic     Bake     Winter     Gourmet

Yield Makes on 9-inch pizza

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 large garlic clove
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano, crumbled
a small pinch dried hot red pepper flakes
coarse salt to taste
all-purpose flour for dusting
Pizza Dougha for one 9-inch pizza

Steps:

  • At least 45 minutes before baking pizza, put a pizza stone or 4 to 6 unglazed "quarry" tiles arranged close together on oven rack in lowest position in oven and preheat oven to highest setting (500°-550°F).
  • Finely chop garlic and in a small bowl combine with oil, oregano, red pepper flakes, and coarse salt.
  • On a lightly floured surface pat out dough evenly with your fingers, keeping hands flat and lifting and turning dough over several times, into a 9-inch round. (Do not handle dough more than necessary. If dough is sticky, dust it lightly with flour.)
  • Dust a baker's peel or rimless baking sheet with flour and carefully transfer dough to it. Jerk peel or baking sheet once or twice and, if dough is sticking, lift dough and sprinkle flour underneath it, reshaping dough if necessary. Working quickly, top dough with oil mixture, spreading with back of a spoon to within 1/2 inch of edge.
  • Line up far edge of peel or baking sheet with far edge of stone or tiles and tilt peel or baking sheet, jerking it gently to start pizza moving. Once edge of pizza touches stone or tiles, carefully pull back peel or baking sheet, completely transferring pizza to stone or tiles (do not move pizza). Bake pizza 6 to 7 minutes, or until dough is crisp and browned, and transfer with a metal spatula to a cutting board.
  • Cut pizza into wedges and serve immediately.

BEST HOMEMADE PIZZA SAUCE RECIPE - ALL INFORMATION ABOUT ...
