1/4 pound deli Genoa salami, diced small
1/4 pound deli ham, diced small
8 slices Provolone cheese, diced small
1/2 cup diced red onion
1/2 cup hot banana peppers, finely chopped (optional)
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
3-4 cups finely chopped iceberg or Romaine lettuce

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the chopped meats and cheese, onion and banana peppers. Add the mayonnaise and Italian seasoning and stir to combine.
  • Just before serving, stir in the chopped lettuce. Serve with baguette slices or crackers.

This easy Italian Hoagie Dip recipe is one of my family's all-time favorite recipes. It has everything that an Italian Hoagie has on it but it's chopped up and served as a dip. Every time I make it, it gets devoured!

1/4 pound sliced pepperoni (chopped into small pieces)
1/4 pound deli turkey breast (chopped into small pieces)
1/4 pound deli Genoa salami (chopped into small pieces)
1/4 pound deli ham (chopped into small pieces)
1/4 pound deli provolone cheese (chopped into small pieces)
1 onion (finely diced)
1/2 head iceberg lettuce (shredded and chopped)
1/2 cup hot banana peppers (finely chopped (optional))
1 tomato (seeded and chopped)
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the deli meats and cheese, onion, lettuce, tomato and banana peppers.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the mayo, olive oil. oregano, basil and pepper flakes.
  • Pour the mayonnaise mixture over the meat mixture and stir to combine.
  • Serve with sliced baguette or crackers.

4 cups iceberg lettuce, cut into bite sized pieces
2 cups fresh tomato, cut into bite sized pieces
1 cup red onion, diced
½ cup dill pickle, cut into bite sized pieces
½ cup pepperoncini, cut into bite sized pieces
½ pound sliced Genoa salami, cut into bite sized pieces
½ pound sliced deli ham, cut into bite sized pieces
¼ pound sliced sweet capicola, cut into bite sized pieces
¼ pound sliced mortadella, cut into bite sized pieces
½ pound sliced provolone cheese, cut into bite sized pieces
Italian sub or hoagie rolls cut into slices
1 cup herbed oil, (we used Marconi Italian Dipping Oil, found at our local supermarket). You can also order a similar variety here

Steps:

  • Make the dressing by combining mayonnaise, olive oil, basil, oregano, garlic powder and pepper flakes. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, pepperoncini, salami, ham, capicola, mortadella and provolone cheese.
  • Toss with the mayonnaise dressing and pour into a serving bowl.
  • Lay out the bread slices on a platter and drizzle the herbed oil over the bread slices as well as over the bowl of hoagie dip and serve.

1/2 head iceberg lettuce
1 large tomato, halved and seeded
1/4 pound deli-sliced genoa salami

1/4 pound deli-sliced roast turkey
1/4 pound deli-sliced provolone cheese
1/2 cup mayonnaise

Steps:

  • Chop the onion, pepperoncini, lettuce and tomato into bite-size pieces. Dice the meats and cheese.
  • Combine the chopped vegetables, meats and cheese in a large bowl. Add the mayonnaise, olive oil, oregano, basil and red pepper flakes and stir until everything is all mixed up and tasty. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
  • Carve out the center of the bread loaf to make a bowl (don't cut through the bottom) and cut the scraps into bite-size pieces. Serve the hoagie dip in the bread bowl, with the extra bread and hoagie rolls to scoop it up. Yummers!

Growing up in a suburb outside Philadelphia, you have hoagies..and really great hoagies! Here in Maryland they have subs...they are NOT hoagies! This dip is the closest thing to a real hoagie taste, as long as you serve it with good bread. If you order a hoagie in the philly area you have it with Mayo, oil or oil and vinegar...sometimes all 3 together which tastes great but is a mess to eat on a roll. This dip combines all 3, but you can just use mayo. It's also best after its been chilled for 1-2 hrs or even longer so the flavors really blend. I have seen recipes with tomatoes and lettuce mixed in but it breaks down the dip and it won't keep. So I like to serve it with diced tomatoes, thinly shredded lettuce and hot peppers on the side for people to top as they like. It's great for parties, holidays, sports events, everyone loves it! Purchase your meats and cheeses at your deli counter regular slice (medium). Cook time listed is chill time.

1/4lb Cappicola (hot ham)

8-10 good hard crust hoagie rolls like Amoroso rolls sliced into pieces

Steps:

  • Dice all the meats and cheeses. Keep them in a stack and just diced them up and sprinkle them through your fingers into a lg bowl to break them up. Then add mayo, oil and vinegar, onion, oregano, salt and pepper. Stir well until completely combined, adding more mayo if needed. Cover and chill for minimum of 1-2 hrs for flavors to develope. Serve with sliced hoagie rolls and the other topping on the side.

1/4 lb hard salami, slices
1/4 lb deli ham, slices
1/4 lb provolone cheese, slices
2 medium tomatoes
1/2 head iceberg lettuce
1/2 medium onion
1/4 cup Wishbone Italian dressing
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon oregano
salt & pepper
1 loaf artisan style bread

Steps:

  • Chop the hard salami, ham, provolone tomatoes, lettuce and onions into small bite-size pieces.
  • Add the Italian dressing, mayonnaise, garlic powder, oregano, and salt and pepper (to taste) and stir together. Set aside.
  • Cut out the center of an artisan style loaf of bread-cubing the reserved bread into pieces to dip (do not cut through to the bottom, make a "bread bowl").
  • Pour in hoagie mixture and serve with bread cubes.

I served this at a barbecue the other day and everyone raved about it. It's not a 'pretty' dip that's for sure.. but it is very good. Serve in a bowl surrounded by slices of Italian bread. Cook time is time to chill.

1/3 lb domestic ham, thinly sliced (luncheon meat)

Everything good about a hoagie (sub, hero, torpedo sandwich) that you can share with everyone! This recipe is easily adaptable. If you prefer a mayo dressing just use 1/2 cup of mayo in place of the oil & vinegar. You can use any deli meats you like!

1/4-1/2 lb sliced deli meats of your choosing -- i use salami, ham, pepperoni and mortadella for italian-style, otherwise i use ham, bologna, and turkey
1/4 lb (or more if you like) sliced cheese (i use provolone for italian-style, cheddar or american otherwise)
1/4 c red wine vinegar
1/2 c olive oil
salt/pepper/oregano (optional)

Steps:

  • 1. Chop meats and cheese in small pieces, add oil/vinegar and mix -- I use my hands as I find it works best for breaking apart the little pieces, but you can use a spoon or fork.
  • 2. Add seasonings and mix again to incorporate. Serve with hand-torn chunks of crusty bread.
  • 3. You can make up to a day ahead -- just cover and refrigerate. You can also add vegetables like chopped tomato, shredded lettuce or diced cucumber, but I find they get soggy if the dip isn't served right away.

It's a hearty, dig in and enjoy kind of dip! As an alternative to tearing the hoagie rolls, you can slice them - or Italian bread - and use the dip as more of a spread. And if your family prefers, you can change the lunch meats and cheeses to suit your needs. Provolone cheese is really good in the dip, and for a bit of spice, use only half of the suggested amount of salami and substitute the other half with capicola. If your family is a fan of spicy stuff, you can also use the jarred hoagie spread, or add your own roasted red peppers to the dip. If you are not a fan of mayonnaise, you can also make the dip by eliminating the mayo entirely and use just vinegar and oil - the same as you would find in an Italian hoagie. Here's an important tip regarding this dip - the recipe makes a very generous portion. If you think you may have some left over after your party, only add the lettuce and tomato to the part you are going to serve. The tomato and lettuce get soggy and wilty way too quickly, and the next day, your dip will look runny and no one will want to eat it. Add lettuce and tomato only to the part you are serving.
