My grandmother fixed this for us growing up and I love it. It is a thick and hearty sauce for spaghetti or your favorite noodle! Of course the bread of choice would have to be Texas garlic bread!

½ pound ground beef
2 (16 ounce) jars spaghetti sauce
1 diced yellow pepper
1 diced red bell pepper
1 (14.5 ounce) can peeled and diced tomatoes, drained
6 fresh mushrooms, coarsely chopped

Steps:

  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until no pink shows; drain.
  • In a large pot combine browned beef and spaghetti sauce over medium heat for 5 or 10 minutes. Add yellow peppers, red peppers, canned tomatoes and mushrooms. Lower heat and simmer covered for 30 minutes, stirring every once in a while.

Yield 15 cups (3.5 L) servings of 1 cup/250 mL

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 medium onions, chopped
3 lbs (1.4 kg) 90% lean ground beef
3 garlic cloves, pressed
3 cans (28 oz each or 796 mL) diced tomatoes, undrained
3 cans (8 oz or 156 mL each) tomato sauce
1 1/2 tbsp (22 mL) sugar

Steps:

  • Heat All-Purpose Pot over medium-high heat. Add onions, beef and pressed garlic. Cook 15-18 min or until beef is no longer pink, breaking into crumbles. Drain. Add tomatoes, tomato sauce and sugar. Bring to a boil, uncovered, over high heat. Reduce heat to medium-low; simmer 40-45 minutes or until sauce thickens, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat; cool slightly. Place about 5 cups (1.25 L) sauce in separate freezer containers. Refrigerate up to 4 days or freeze up to 3 months.

1 pound lean ground beef (90% lean)
1/2 cup chopped sweet red pepper
1/4 cup chopped green pepper
1/4 cup chopped celery
1/4 cup chopped onion
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 pound sliced fresh mushrooms
1 can (14-1/2 ounces) Italian diced tomatoes, undrained
1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
1/2 cup water
1 bay leaf
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Hot cooked spaghetti
2 tablespoons shredded Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, cook the beef, peppers, celery, onion and garlic over medium heat until meat is no longer pink and vegetables are tender; drain. Add the mushrooms; cook for 2 minutes. , Stir in the tomatoes, tomato paste, water, bay leaf, sugar, salt, basil, oregano and pepper. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 45 minutes, stirring often. Discard bay leaf. Serve sauce over spaghetti. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

1 pound ground beef
1 pound bulk Italian sausage
1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes, undrained
1 medium green pepper, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
2 medium carrots, finely chopped
1 cup water
1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
Hot cooked spaghetti

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, cook beef and sausage over medium heat until no longer pink; drain. , Transfer to a 5-qt. slow cooker. Stir in the tomatoes, green pepper, onion, carrots, water, tomato sauce, tomato paste, brown sugar, Italian seasoning, garlic, salt and pepper. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until bubbly. Serve with spaghetti. Freeze option: Do not cook spaghetti. Freeze meat sauce in freezer containers. To use, partially thaw in refrigerator overnight. Cook spaghetti according to package directions. Place sauce in a large skillet; heat through, stirring occasionally and adding a little water if necessary. Serve over spaghetti.

2 tablespoons oil (I'm using olive oil)
2 pounds ground meat of your choice, such as beef, pork, turkey, chicken, lamb (I'm using beef)
1 onion, diced (I'm using yellow onion)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup tomato paste
3/4 cup liquid of your choice, such as beef stock, chicken stock, water or wine (I'm using red wine)
One 28-ounce can tomato product (I'm using crushed tomatoes)
2 tablespoons oregano (if you have it)
Salt and pepper
1 pound dry pasta (I'm using rigatoni)
3 tablespoons grated hard cheese (I'm using Parmesan)

Steps:

  • Heat a large saucepan over medium heat and add the oil. When hot, add the meat and cook, without stirring, until browned, 3 to 5 minutes. Break it up with a wooden spoon, then add the onion and garlic and cook, stirring, until starting to soften, about 2 minutes. Add the tomato paste and cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Add the wine and bring to a simmer. Add the crushed tomatoes and oregano and season with salt and pepper. Simmer until thickened and the flavors come together, about 1 hour.
  • About 20 minutes before the sauce is done, bring a large pot of water to a boil and salt liberally. Drop in the pasta, give it a stir and cook until al dente according to the package instructions. Drain the pasta and add it to the sauce. Remove from the heat, toss in the cheese and serve.

1 pound ground pork
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 onions, chopped
1 clove garlic, crushed
3 cups red wine
2 pounds fresh mushrooms, sliced
¼ teaspoon dried rosemary
4 tablespoons chopped fresh oregano
¼ teaspoon chopped fresh thyme
3 (29 ounce) cans tomato sauce
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, brown beef and pork over medium heat until no longer pink; set aside.
  • In a large skillet, warm olive oil over medium heat and saute onions and garlic until tender; add about 1/2 cup of wine; mix well.
  • Add mushrooms, rosemary, oregano and thyme to skillet and add another 1/2 cup wine; saute until tender.
  • Add browned meat, tomato sauce and tomato paste to mixture; simmer for 1 hour and add the remaining 2 cups of wine.
  • Simmer sauce on low for 2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally; serve.

2 tablespoons divided olive oil
2 cups celery, chopped
2 cups onions, chopped
6 ounces mushrooms
3 minced garlic cloves
2 carrots, chopped

2 scotch bonnet peppers, chopped
1 tablespoon fresh thyme
1 tablespoon fresh rosemary
1 tablespoon fresh oregano
2 tablespoons fresh basil
1 tablespoon ground pepper, divided
1 teaspoon kosher salt, divided
1 tablespoon celery seed
2 bay leaves
2 (29 ounce) cans tomato sauce
2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
2 (28 ounce) cans diced tomatoes

Steps:

  • In a large hot sauce pan, add 1 Tbsp of Olive oil, and brown ground beef and turkey, season lightly with salt and pepper.
  • Put aside once browned, strain out any fat.
  • Add 1 Tbsp of olive oil to large hot sauce pan. Add onion, celery, carrot, garlic, mushrooms, red peppers, haberno peppers. Stir and sautee for 2-3 minutes, until onions an celery begin to brown.
  • Add tyme, rosemary, oregano, celery seed, salt and pepper. Mix well to incorperate all herbs and spices.
  • Add browned meat, stirring well.
  • Add the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes and paste. Stir to completely mix.
  • Add Basil and Bay leaves.
  • Bring to a boil on medium high heat.
  • Reduce to a simmer for 1-2 hours.
