Number Of Ingredients 9

1 pound lean ground beef (90% lean)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
8 Bibb lettuce leaves
1/3 cup crumbled feta cheese
2 tablespoons Miracle Whip Light
1/2 medium ripe avocado, peeled and cut into 8 slices
1/4 cup chopped red onion
Chopped cherry tomatoes, optional

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine beef, salt and pepper, mixing lightly but thoroughly. Shape into eight 1/2-in.-thick patties., Grill burgers, covered, over medium heat or broil 3-4 in. from heat until a thermometer reads 160°, 3-4 minutes on each side. Place burgers in lettuce leaves. Combine feta and Miracle Whip; spread over burgers. Top with avocado, red onion and if desired, tomatoes.

I found a recipe for meatballs for babies that used iron fortified rice cereal instead of bread crumbs and it was very good, so I thought...why not burgers? Then I was inspired to make it even healthier and my picky kids loved the results. Me, I still prefer my old recipe, but hey my kids like it and that is what counts. I am guessing at the amounts, I usually just eyeball it.

1 lb ground beef
1 egg
1/4-1/2 cup infant cereal (iron fortified)
1/4 cup wheat germ
1 tablespoon flax seed
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons oregano
1 teaspoon garlic salt

Steps:

  • Mix all until it holds together well. May need to add more dry ingredients.
  • Shape into patties.
  • grill a total of 10-12 minutes.+/- depending on the size and thickness of the burgers.

850 g mince meat
1 onion, finely chopped
3 garlic cloves, crushed
50 ml tomato puree
1 1/2 tablespoons italian mixed herbs
1 tablespoon parsley
60 ml tomato ketchup
3 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1 cup parmesan cheese
1 large egg (or 2 medium eggs)
3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs, flakes (Japanese breadcrumbs available at most Asian grocery stores, regular are fine but you probably need )

Steps:

  • Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl until thoroughly combined.
  • Shape into patties, it will make 6 large burgers and about 8 smaller ones.
  • Heat a small amount of oil in a pan and cook until well browned on each side and meat is cooked through.
  • Serve on buns with your favourite condiments.

1 15-ounce bag frozen sweet potato fries
1 pound ground beef
2 scallions, minced
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 small head iceberg lettuce, leaves torn or cut into burger-size pieces
1/2 cup roasted red pepper hummus
1/4 seedless cucumber, thinly sliced
2 precooked beets, thinly sliced
2 or 3 radishes, thinly sliced
1/2 avocado, thinly sliced
3/4 cup sprouts

Steps:

  • Bake the sweet potato fries as the label directs. Meanwhile, combine the beef, scallions, 3/4 teaspoon salt and a few grinds of pepper in a large bowl; mix well. Form the mixture into 4 equal patties, 3 1/2 to 4 inches wide. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the patties and cook until browned, about 3 minutes. Flip and cook to medium doneness, another 2 minutes.
  • Divide the lettuce leaves among plates, layering a few leaves to create 2 "buns" per plate. Put a burger on one of the lettuce buns on each plate. Top each with 2 tablespoons hummus, slices of the cucumber, beets, radishes and avocado and some sprouts. Serve with the sweet potato fries.

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
1 medium avocado, peeled and mashed
1 tablespoon snipped chives or 1 tablespoon finely chopped onion
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon seasoning salt
1/2 cup chopped tomato
2 lbs ground beef
salt & freshly ground black pepper
6 slices sourdough bread, toasted
lettuce
4 slices bacon, cook and crumbled

Steps:

  • Combine softened cream cheese, avocado, chives or onion, lemon juice and salt; mixing until well blended; add tomato, mix lightly.
  • Shape ground beef into six oval patties; broil (or grill) on both sides to desired doneness; season with salt and pepper.
  • For each sandwich, cover one bread slice with lettuce, then the beef patty, the cream sauce and then sprinkle on the bacon.

4 san francisco sourdough hamburger buns
8 slices pepper bacon
4 slices American cheese
4 slices walla walla onions

crispy romaine lettuce
jalapeno pepper
mustard
mayonnaise
ketchup
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Cook bacon as desired.
  • Separate burger into 4 patties. Grill sirloin burger until done.
  • When just about done place a slice of american cheese on each burger.
  • Meanwhile, roast on the bbq slices of red pepper.
  • Rinse all vegetables and slice into rounds. Choose your condiments.
  • Build your burger!
  • Salt and pepper to taste.
  • Enjoy!
