HEALTHIER FRENCH FRIES AND BUDGET FRIENDLY
We love french fries but nor the fat or the salt. DH bought me a french fry cutter that I love as I use it for fruits and veggies besides FF. As we wanted fries for dinner t go with the super duper burgers (turkey) I made a batch of taters for the oven that rival any seasoned ones we have had, yet hugely better as they are no salt and minimal grease. Oven fires.

Steps:
- cut taters into fry shape and rinse in a bowl of water.
- put olive oil into bowl of washed taters and mix around. Kids do this with their hands so do I.

- *** times vary depending on fry size, steak fries longer, skinny fries shorter time. check after 30 min to guage length.
- options: garlic powder, oregano, basil, steak seasoning, Old Bay, cajun powder seasoning, chili powder. The options are all up to you.

Steps:
- Slice the pototoes into thin rectangles that look like french fries.
- Toss with olive oil.
- Put in baking pan and lightly salt.
- Bake at 400 for 30 minutes.
- About halfway through baking time flip the french fries over to crisp on both sides. With about five minutes left I turn the broiler on to crisp up the fries more.

Steps:
- Peel the potatoes and cut into 1cm-thick batons. Put into a bowl of cold water and leave to soak for at least 2 hrs to remove the starch from the potatoes - this will help them crisp while frying.
- Drain the potatoes well and pat dry with kitchen paper. Fill a deep pan no more than a third full with oil and heat to 140C, or until a cube of bread dropped in browns in 60 seconds. Fry the French fries in batches for 6 mins per batch until golden straw-coloured, cooked through and lightly crisp. Drain well on kitchen paper.
- Turn the heat up until the oil reaches 180C, or a cube of bread browns in 30 seconds. Fry the French fries again for 2-3 mins per batch until lightly golden and really crisp. Drain on kitchen paper and immediately season with sea salt.
