2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon cumin seed
1 large onion, chopped
2 tomatoes, chopped
2 cups water
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon garam masala
salt
1/4-1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
2 cups green peas, frozen
1/4 cup whole milk or 1/4 cup light cream
1 tablespoon cilantro leaf, for garnish

Steps:

  • Heat oil and add cumin seed. As soon as it sputters, add onion and cook about 5 minutes, until translucent.
  • Add tomatoes and cook 2 minutes.
  • Add water, turmeric, garam masala, salt and red chile powder. Let boil for 5 minutes.
  • Add peas and continue cooking until tender, about 7 min for frozen and about 10 min for fresh peas.
  • Add milk and cook 3 min more.
  • Serve, with cilantro leaves sprinkled on top.

1/4 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon garam masala
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4-1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon tomato paste
3/4 cup heavy whipping cream
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons cilantro, chopped
1 hot green chili pepper, finely chopped
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon cumin seed
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
20 ounces frozen peas

Steps:

  • defrost frozen peas under warm water completely. drain.
  • combine sugar, ground cumin, garam masala, salt, cayenne, and tomato paste. slow add 2 TB water, mixing as you go.
  • add cream slowly, mix. add lemon juice, cilantro, and green chile. mix again and set this cream sauce aside.
  • put oil in large frying pan and set over medium high heat. when it's hot, add cumin seeds and mustard seeds. as soon as seeds begin to pop, add peas. Stir and fry peas for 30 seconds.
  • add in cream sauce. cook on high heat for 1.5-2 minutes or until sauce has thickened, stirring gently as you do so.

  • To prepare this easy Green Peas Masala recipe, add oil in a pan and heat it over medium flame. Once the oil is sufficiently hot, add fennel seeds and curry leaves. Fry them for 10 seconds. Once they start to splutter, add onions in the pan. Saute the onions till they turn little pinkish in hue.
  • Then add the tomatoes and cook for 5 minutes, while stirring continuously. Then add green chillis, turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder and 1/4 cup of water. Stir well and cook for another minute. Then add the green peas and salt. Stir the dish until evenly mixed. When the peas are cooked properly and the gravy starts to thicken, remove from the flame.
