OLD-FASHIONED PEACH COBBLER

Old-Fashioned Peach Cobbler image

A buttery crust and juicy peaches combine to create this mouthwateringly easy old-fashioned peach cobbler - a traditional Deep South dessert.

Provided by The SouthernPlate Staff

Categories     Dessert

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 6

29 ounce can of peaches in light syrup (drained (the big can, it may be 28 oz))
1 cup milk
1 cup self-rising flour
1 cup sugar
1 stick butter
1 teaspoon (or two) of cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Drain peaches and set them aside.
  • Melt the stick of butter in an 8x8 baking dish (I just stick it in the oven while it is preheating).
  • Mix together the flour, sugar, and teaspoon of cinnamon until blended. Pour in milk and stir until blended again. After butter is melted, take the dish out of the oven and pour the batter on top of the butter, DON'T STIR.
  • Use a big spoon to set your peach slices down all over the top of the cobbler dough, DON'T STIR. They will sink down and it will all be fine. Just distribute them as best you can but don't move them around once you set them down.
  • If you want, sprinkle about a tablespoon of sugar and another teaspoon of cinnamon over the top of your peach mixture. Sometimes I do this, sometimes I don't.
  • Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until it's set in the center and golden brown on top. Let it cool and thicken for about 30 minutes before serving with vanilla ice cream.

PEACH COBBLER

Peach Cobbler image

This old fashioned Peach Cobbler recipe is not only extremely easy to make from scratch, but it's made with fresh or canned peaches so you can enjoy it all year round!

Provided by Lauren Allen

Categories     Dessert

Time 55m

Number Of Ingredients 10

5 peaches (, peeled, cored and sliced (about 4 cups))
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 Tablespoons butter
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup milk
ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Add the sliced peaches, sugar and salt to a saucepan and stir to combine. *(If using canned peaches, skip steps 1 & 2 and follow the directions starting at step 3)
  • Cook on medium heat for just a few minutes, until the sugar is dissolved and helps to bring out juices from the peaches. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Slice butter into pieces and add to a 9x13 inch baking dish. Place the pan in the oven while it preheats, to allow the butter to melt. Once melted, remove the pan from the oven.
  • In a large bowl mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk, just until combined. Pour the mixture into the pan, over the melted butter and smooth it into an even layer.
  • Spoon the peaches and juice (or canned peaches, if using) over the batter. Sprinkle cinnamon generously over the top.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for about 38-40 minutes. Serve warm, with a scoop of ice cream, if desired.

GREAT GREAT GRANDMA'S FRESH PEACH COBBLER

Great Great Grandma's Fresh Peach Cobbler image

This recipe has been in my family for generations. The brown sugar and the juices from the fresh peaches caramelize as the batter on top bakes into a moist cake. This is wonderful served warm with heavy cream, whipped cream, or ice cream. **NOTE: The number of peaches needed will depend on their size. You want an even layer, covering the bottom of your baking dish. I have use anywhere from 4 large peaches to 6 small peaches. If you place your peaches into a pot of boiling water for about 30 - 40 seconds and then into cold water, the peels come off very easy. Another tip; before peeling (after the plunge into the boiling water), take your paring knife and starting from the stem end, slice around the peach ending were you started, then while holding each half, twist in opposite directions to release the pit (much like you would like an avocado). Then peel and slice. If you have really sweet peaches, you can adjust the brown sugar to 3/4 cup.

This cobbler is a very smooth and custard-like dessert that is DELICIOUS. Grandma always made this for us because it was very easy and economical. GRANDMA'S PEACH COBBLER (10-12 SERVINGS)

GRANDMA'S PEACH COBBLER (10-12 SERVINGS) image

Categories     Fruit     Dessert

Yield 10-12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 stick butter (half cup)
1 c. flour
1.5 tsp baking powder
.5 tsp salt
1 c. sugar
1 c. milk
.5 tsp almond flavoring
3 c. peeled and sliced fresh peaches, with juices*
*If juicy, flavorful peaches aren't in your market, substitute frozen peaches without added sugar.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Put the butter in a 9x13 Pyrex baking dish and put the dish in the oven. While the butter is melting, mix up the batter by combining the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar first and then adding milk and almond flavoring. When the butter is completely melted, remove the pan and pour the batter into the melted butter. (It may not completely cover the bottom of the pan, but fear not.) Then, carefully spoon peaches and juice over the batter. Return dish to oven and bake for 30-45 minutes. (Test batter in center for doneness with toothpick.) As the cobbler cooks, the batter will rise up and around the peaches.
