EASY HOMEMADE SPAGHETTI SAUCE RECIPE



Easy Homemade Spaghetti Sauce Recipe image

My family's secret homemade spaghetti sauce is easy to make using a few staple ingredients you may already have on hand! Perfectly thick and packed with flavor, you'll be ditching that store bought pasta sauce!

1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil (I used Private Reserve Greek extra virgin olive oil)
1 medium yellow onion, grated
3 garlic cloves, finely minced
2 carrots, finely grated (use a food processor or a grater)
28 oz canned crushed tomatoes
1/2 cup water (pasta cooking water, preferred)
Kosher salt and black pepper
1 tbsp dried oregano
1 tsp sweet Spanish paprika
Pinch red pepper flakes, optional
Handful fresh basil, about ½ cup packed, torn
Handful fresh parsley, about ½ cup packed, chopped
3/4 lb to 1 lb of cooked pasta of your choice

Steps:

  • In a large pan heat the extra virgin olive oil over medium heat until just shimmering. Add the onions, garlic, and finely grated carrots. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring regularly until softened.
  • Add the crushed tomatoes and about 1/2 cup water. Add a generous pinch of salt and pepper. Stir in oregano, paprika, crushed pepper flakes, if using. Finally, stir in the fresh basil and parsley.
  • Bring the sauce to a boil, then turn heat to low. Cover and let simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes. Check partway through, and if you feel the sauce is too thick, you can add a bit more water (preferably some of your pasta cooking water). When sauce is ready, throw in more fresh basil, if you like.
  • If serving for dinner, add cooked pasta of your choice to the sauce. Mix to combine and let the pasta cook in the sauce over low heat for about 5 minutes.

2 tablespoons olive oil
2 (8 ounce) cans clams, minced
1 (24 ounce) can tomatoes, stewed
3 cloves, Garlic, minced
1/2 cup red wine
2 tablespoons fresh oregano, chopped
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
16 ounces linguine, cooked acording to directions
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • Brown garlic in olive oil.
  • Add wine and clams; one can drained and one not.
  • Add tomatoes and oregano.
  • Heat to simmer.
  • Add linguini and stir to coat.
  • Top with grated parmesan.
  • Serve imediately.

1 lb ground beef, browned
1 medium onion, chopped
1 medium green pepper, chopped
Salt & pepper, to taste
1 can (10 oz.) can cream of mushroom soup
1 can (15 oz.) can tomato sauce
1 lg. bay leaf
1 pkg dry French's spaghetti sauce mix
1 beef bouillon cube

Steps:

  • Brown ground beef with onions & green pepper; drain.
  • Mix in salt, pepper, cream of mushroom soup, tomato sauce, bay leaf, French's spaghetti sauce mix, and beef bouillon cube. Stir until well blended.
  • Bring to a boil, reduce heat to simmer. Cook on top of stove about 1 hour.
  • Remove from heat, Remove and discard bay leaf and put sauce on cooked spaghetti on dinner plate. Parmesan cheese is optional.

1 lb spaghetti or 1 lb elbow macaroni
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 garlic cloves, minced
3 tablespoons bell peppers, finely chopped
1 medium onion, coarsely chopped
1/4 cup butter
2 lbs shrimp, peeled and deveined
1/2 teaspoon oregano leaves
1/2 teaspoon fennel seed
salt
pepper
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
3 tablespoons parmesan cheese, grated
1 cup black olives, coarsely chopped

Steps:

  • Cook Ziti as directed on package.
  • In a skillet, sauté the garlic, bell pepper, and onion in olive oil until they wilt.
  • Coarsely chop 1 pound of the shrimp. Leave the other half whole.
  • Add the butter, reduce heat to low and add shrimp. Gradually add the oregano, fennel seeds, salt and pepper, and heavy cream.
  • Simmer the sauce for exactly 4 minutes on low, just to a slow bubble. Remove from the heat.
  • Cook the spaghetti; drain well and place in 1 1/2 quart casserole dish.
  • Pour the shrimp sauce over, add the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses and mix everything together. Sprinkle the chopped olives on top of the pasta.
  • Place in the oven at 275F and heat to piping hot.

2 green onions, chopped

1 tablespoon olive oil
3 cloves garlic, minced very fine
1 onion (large) chopped fine
3 carrots, shredded
1/4 pound mushrooms, fresh, chopped (optional)
1/2 cup parsley, fresh, chopped
2 tablespoons basil leaves
1/2 teaspoon oregano leaves
1 tablespoon anise seed crushed (use 2 tablespoons if no meat is used)
1 1/2 cups dry red wine or more (Burgundy or Chianti)
2 (28-ounce) cans tomatoes, whole
1 (12-ounce) can tomato paste

Steps:

  • My dad is a very good cook, and he taught me to respect well-spiced food. This is an adaptation of his recipe, and I always get compliments on it. The addition of aniseed (tastes like licorice) is the secret.1. Heat olive oil in heavy Dutch oven over medium-low heat. Add garlic and sauté for a few minutes-don't let it brown. Add onion, carrots, mushrooms, parsley, basil, oregano, aniseed, and red wine. Simmer for 10 minutes.2. Meanwhile, run the tomatoes through a blender or food processor, then add to skillet along with the tomato paste.3. Cover and let simmer 3-4 hours. Stir several times each hour.
