MUDDLED BASIL MARTINI
I've been searching for the perfect summer basil martini. I think I found it on the "B*tches on a Budget" website! Slight variation using agave nectar instead of simple syrup. I had to substitute ounces for "jiggers" as called for in the original recipe -- original verbage included in directions.

Steps:
- Muddle the basil, simple syrup and lime juice together. Add gin or vodka. Combine in a cocktail shaker with loads of ice. Shake until there are shards of ice and the mix turns frothy. Strain.
- Original recipe reads: 2 1/2 jiggers of vodka or gin. 1 jigger simple syrup. 1 jigger fresh squeezed lime juice. 4 fresh sweet basil leaves. 1 fresh spearmint leaf (or to taste).
GIN BASIL SMASH
A perfect accent for an outdoor supper during tomato season. In winter, it revives the palate as an aperitif. This drink demonstrates so ably how fresh ingredients can be incorporated into everyday drinking cocktails. Head to your kitchen garden or snag a big bunch of basil at the farmers' market, and you're mere steps from a living drink that will make your head dizzy. This drink smashes basil, but you can smash anything-tarragon, thyme, cilantro, or kefir lime leaves. Let this drink inspire you. We like to host a garden party with an assortment of fresh herbs and gins, and let friends muddle their way through an array of flavors.

CLASSIC GIN MARTINI
Enjoy a classic dry martini. This is a good example of how ice is an ingredient in its own right. Take time stirring and tasting it until it's to your liking
