RED SAUCE AND SPAGHETTI

Red Sauce and Spaghetti image

Provided by Food Network

Time 33m

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 (28-ounce) can pelati tomatoes*
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for serving
1/3 red onion, medium diced
3 cloves garlic, sliced into chunks
Pinch red pepper flakes, optional
2 handful fresh basil, torn, plus more for serving
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 pound spaghetti, for serving
Freshly grated Parmesan cheese, for serving

Steps:

  • In a food processor, puree the tomatoes to a smooth creamy consistency.
  • Add olive oil to a large pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the onions and saute until they are soft, and before it actually starts browning a bit, add the garlic. If you'd like to make the sauce spicier, add a pinch red pepper, optional.
  • Add the tomatoes and season with salt and pepper.
  • Simmer on a medium-low flame for about a half hour. Thrive for balance in the consistency of the sauce, it has to be fluid but it should not look overly wet. A few minutes before taking the sauce off the fire, add half the basil and season with salt and pepper.
  • To serve: Cook a nice al dente pasta, dress with red sauce and finish with some freshly grated Parmesan, a couple of leaves of basil and sprinkle with extra-virgin olive oil.

GARLIC SPAGHETTI SAUCE

Garlic Spaghetti Sauce image

I adopted this recipe from Zaar some time ago and finally got round to trying it myself. It's quick and simple and full of fresh flavours. I prefer using basil but the original recipe stated parsley so I left it here for you to choose. Try adding some sliced black olives, fried or marinated mushrooms or sun blush tomatoes at the end.

SPAGHETTI WITH TOMATO GARLIC SAUCE

Spaghetti With Tomato Garlic Sauce image

This is a very common recipe that we make in Greece, during the Easter lent. The sauce has a very strong taste so there is no need for cheese on the top. Some people are adding cheese at the top but I never do.

GARLIC SPAGHETTI (RED SAUCE)

Garlic Spaghetti (Red Sauce) image

I'm a garlic lover! I got this recipe from Melissa D'Arabian from the food network show Best thing I ever ate. Made a few changes. If you love garlic you will love this!

Provided by Joanne

Categories     One Dish Meal

Time 1h5m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 lb spaghetti
15 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 chicken bouillon cube
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (or more if you like it spicy)
2 (14 1/2 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
4 tablespoons real butter (unsalted)
1 cup starchy pasta cooking water
salt
1/4 cup olive oil
torn basil
parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Heat a large deep pot large enough to hold spaghetti and sauce on low heat.
  • Add olive oil and garlic. Cook on low heat for 25 minutes stirring about every minute or so. Stirring constantly will prevent garlic from burning. If you burn the garlic it turns bitter and you would have to start over. The garlic should be golden brown after about 25 minutes.
  • Add the chicken bouillon cube, crushed red pepper, and cook for about 1 minute.
  • Add the canned tomatoes and butter, bring to a boil stirring occasionally.
  • Reduce to simmer, cover and let cook for about 30 minutes stirring occasionally.
  • Meanwhile, bring lg. pot of salted water to boil. Cook pasta according to package.
  • When the pasta has about a minute or so left to cook add the pasta water to the simmering sauce and stir.
  • Drain pasta, add to pot with sauce. Stir to combine.
  • Top with Parmesan Cheese, and basil.
