Provided by Aysegul Sanford

Categories     Dinner

Time 29m

Number Of Ingredients 15

1 ½ cups cherry tomatoes (halved (heirloom tomatoes or Roma tomatoes would also work))
1 tablespoon olive oil
½ teaspoon kosher salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
¾ cup fresh basil leaves (loosely packed - more to use as a garnish at the end)
3 cloves of garlic (minced)
¼ teaspoon kosher salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 lb. store-bought pizza dough (thawed if frozen)
8 oz. fresh mozzarella, cut/torn into small pieces ((227 grams))
1 teaspoon olive oil
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons balsamic reduction (optional)

Steps:

  • Place the oven rack at the very top setting and preheat the oven to 450 F (232C) degrees.
  • Place tomatoes on a sheet pan. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Give them a toss. Roast until tomatoes start to burst, 9-10 minutes. Set aside. Do not turn the oven off.
  • Place a sheet pan or a pizza stone on the top shelf in your oven.
  • While the tomatoes are roasting make the basil mixture. To do so, place basil, garlic, salt, and pepper in the bowl of a food processor. Pulse a few times to break it into smaller pieces. While the machine is running, drizzle it with olive oil. You may have to scrape the sides with a spatula a few times to turn it into a paste.
  • Roll the pizza dough into a 14.5-inch circle. Spread it evenly with the basil mixture leaving an inch on the sides. The basil sauce will be a very thin layer. Scatter the roasted tomatoes and mozzarella pieces on top. Lightly brush the sides with olive oil.
  • Using a pizza peel or the back of a sheet pan, carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated sheet pan or pizza stone. Bake 12-14 minutes or until the cheese is totally melted and the sides turned golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and sprinkle it with fresh basil. Let it rest for a few minutes, cut into 8 slices, drizzle with the balsamic reduction (if using), and enjoy.

EVERYTHING BASIL PIZZA

Everything Basil Pizza image

This epic basil pizza is all about one thing: BASIL. It's got a thick layer of savory pesto, and is topped with loads of fresh leaves!

Provided by Sonja Overhiser

Categories     Main Dish

Time 1h5m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 ball Best Pizza Dough (or Food Processor Dough or Thin Crust Dough)
1/2 cup Best Basil Pesto (or Cashew Pesto, Walnut Pesto, or Vegan Pesto)
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/8 cup Parmesan cheese
1 pinch dried basil (optional)
Semolina flour or cornmeal, for dusting the pizza peel
1 handful fresh basil leaves

Steps:

  • Follow the Best Pizza Dough or Thin Crust Dough recipe to prepare the dough. (This takes about 15 minutes to make and 45 minutes to rest.)
  • Place a pizza stone in the oven and preheat to 500°F. OR preheat your pizza oven (here's the pizza oven we use).
  • Make the Best Basil Pesto (or Cashew Pesto, Walnut Pesto, or Vegan Pesto). Thinly slice the fresh basil (or keep it whole if you like).
  • When the oven is ready, dust a pizza peel with cornmeal or semolina flour. (If you don't have a pizza peel, you can use a rimless baking sheet or the back of a rimmed baking sheet. But a pizza peel is well worth the investment!) Stretch the dough into a circle; see How to Stretch Pizza Dough for instructions. Then gently place the dough onto the pizza peel.
  • Spoon the pesto onto the dough and spread it out with the back of the spoon. Then top with the mozzarella cheese in an even layer, then the Parmesan cheese. Add a pinch of dried basil and if you like, a sprinkle of kosher salt. (Most pesto is salty enough, but it depends on your pesto and cheese.)
  • Use the pizza peel to carefully transfer the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone. Bake the pizza until the cheese and crust are nicely browned, about 5 to 7 minutes in the oven (or 1 minute in a pizza oven).
  • Top with the basil leaves. Slice into pieces and serve immediately.

PIZZA WITH SUGO SAUCE, BUFFALO MOZZARELLA, AND FRESH BASIL

Pizza with Sugo Sauce, Buffalo Mozzarella, and Fresh Basil image

Provided by Tyler Florence

Categories     main-dish

Yield 3 pizzas

Number Of Ingredients 16

1 recipe Pizza Dough, recipe follows
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
1(8-ounce) ball fresh buffalo mozzarella, water drained
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 cup large pitted green Spanish olives, such as Manzanilla, chopped
2 tablespoons capers, drained
1/2 bunch fresh basil leaves, hand torn
2 (28-ounce) cans whole peeled tomatoes, drained and hand crushed
1 package active dry yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1 cup warm water
1 tablespoon kosher salt
Extra-virgin olive oil
3 cups 00 flour, plus more for dusting

Steps:

  • Make the pizza dough as directed in the master recipe. Stick a pizza stone in the oven and preheat them to 500 degrees F.
  • Coat a saute pan with the olive oil and place over medium heat. When the oil gets hazy, add the onion and garlic, cook and stir for 5 minutes to soften. Add the olives, capers, and some hand torn basil. Carefully add the tomatoes (nothing splashes like tomatoes), cook and stir until the liquid is cooked down and the sauce is thick, about 10 minutes; season with salt and pepper and then take it off the stove.
  • Spread the sugo sauce evenly on the crust with a ladle. Rip the mozzarella into pieces with your hands and distribute them on top; scatter some basil leaves all around. Slide the pizza onto the hot stone in the oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until the crust is golden and crisp, and the cheese is bubbly. Garnish with even more fresh basil before serving.
  • In the bowl of a standing electric mixer fitted with a dough hook, combine the yeast, sugar, and warm water; stir gently to dissolve. Let the mixture stand until the yeast comes alive and starts to foam, about 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Turn the mixer on low and add the salt and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Add the flour, a little at a time, mixing at the lowest speed until all the flour has been incorporated. When the dough starts to come together, increase the speed to medium; stop the machine periodically to scrape the dough off the hook. Get a feel for the dough by squeezing a small amount together: if it's crumbly, add more water; if it's sticky, add more flour - 1 tablespoon at a time. Mix until the dough gathers into a ball, this should take about 5 minutes.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and fold it over itself a few times; kneading until it's smooth and elastic. Form the dough into a round and place in a lightly oiled bowl, turn it over to coat. Cover with plastic wrap or a damp towel and let it rise in a warm spot (i.e. over a gas pilot light) until doubled in size, about 1 hour. This is a good time to stick a pizza stone in the oven and preheat them to 500 degrees F.
  • Once the dough is domed and spongy, turn it out onto a lightly floured counter. Roll and stretch the dough into a cylinder and divide into 3 equal pieces. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes so it will be easier to roll out.
  • Roll or pat out a piece of dough into a 12-inch circle, about 1/8-inch thick. Dust a pizza paddle with flour and slide it under the pizza dough. Brush the crust with a thin layer of olive oil, and top with your favorite flavors. Slide the pizza onto the hot stone in the oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until the crust is golden and crisp. Repeat with the remaining dough.

PIZZA WITH FRESH TOMATOES AND BASIL

Pizza with Fresh Tomatoes and Basil image

Provided by Giada De Laurentiis

Categories     main-dish

Time 30m

Yield 4 to 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 tablespoon yellow cornmeal
Two 8-ounce pieces of homemade or purchased Pizza Dough, recipe follows
6 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 1/3 cups, grated pasteurized mozzarella
2 Roma tomatoes, cut crosswise into 1/4-inch-thick slices
1/4 cup grated Parmesan
1 large garlic clove, minced, optional
6 fresh basil leaves, plus extra for garnish
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup warm water (105 to 110 degrees F)
2 teaspoons dry yeast
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons olive oil

Steps:

  • Position 1 oven rack in the center and the second rack on the bottom of the oven and preheat to 450 degrees F. Sprinkle the cornmeal over 2 rimless baking sheets. Roll out each piece of Pizza Dough into a 10 to 11-inch-diameter round. Transfer 1 dough to each prepared baking sheet.
  • Drizzle 2 teaspoons of oil over each Pizza Dough. Sprinkle the mozzarella over the Pizza Dough, dividing equaling and leaving a 1-inch border around each pizza. Arrange the tomato slices in a single layer over the cheese. Sprinkle with the Parmesan. Arrange basil leaves on top, drizzle with a little more olive oil and sprinkle garlic all over. Bake the pizzas until the crusts are crisp and brown on the bottom and the cheese is melted on top, about 15 minutes. Drizzle 1 teaspoon of oil over each pizza. Sprinkle with basil for garnish and salt. Cut the pizza into wedges and serve immediately.
  • Mix the warm water and yeast in a small bowl to blend. Let stand until the yeast dissolves, about 5 minutes. Mix the flour and salt in a food processor to blend. Blend in the oil. With the machine running, add the yeast mixture and blend just until the dough forms. Turn the dough out onto lightly floured surface and knead until smooth, about 1 minute. Transfer the dough to a large oiled bowl and turn the dough to coat with the oil. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and set aside in a warm draft-free area until the dough doubles in volume, about 1 hour. Punch the down dough and divide into 2 equal balls. (The dough can be used immediately or stored airtight in the refrigerator for 1 day.)

CREAMY GARLIC CHEESE PIZZA WITH FRESH BASIL

Creamy Garlic Cheese Pizza With Fresh Basil image

My husband's creation. This pizza is a favorite of ours because of my love for garlic and my husbands love for pizza with creamy sauces. My kids love it because they don't like many toppings. I use our recipe for the pizza dough Recipe #252423. Half of this recipe makes 1 12 inch round deep dish pizza crust. I love lots of fresh garlic in my pizza and this is definetely a pizza for big garlic lovers, though it is possible to go too far so be a little cautious when adding the garlic. ;) Prep time doesn't include making pizza dough.

Time 35m

Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 (12 inch) deep dish pizza dough

3 -4 garlic cloves, large, chopped (depending on how strong you like your garlic. I used 5 cloves once and it was too much for some of u)
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese, grated
1 -1 1/2 tablespoon fresh basil, thinly sliced

Steps:

  • Mix garlic, ranch, and cayenne pepper together. Then spread it over the pizza crust leaving about 1 inch border of crust.
  • Cover the pizza with mozzerella cheese. Then sprinkle the fresh basil leaves over the top.
  • Bake at 350 F for approximately 15-25 minutes. Generally it takes about this long but the time can vary depending on the pizza crust being used.

  • Working on a floured surface and using your fingers, press and stretch the dough ball out to a 10-inch round, working from the center toward the edge; avoid pressing on the outermost edge. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured pizza peel. Spread the Pizza Sauce onto the dough, making sure to leave a 1-inch border around the edge, and top with the mozzarella cheese, basil leaves, a drizzle of the extra-virgin olive oil and a light grating of Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese.
  • Turn the oven to broil for 5 minutes, then return it to 500°. Slide the pizza onto the pizza stone, opening and closing the oven door as quickly as possible. Bake until the bottom is lightly charred and the toppings are bubbling, about 6 minutes for a chewier crust and 8 minutes for a crispier one; avoid opening the oven door during baking.
