EGGNOG

Eggnog image

This family tradition involved even the kids at New Year's Eve. They got to help make it even if they didn't get to drink it. The beauty of this recipe is that every ingredient is one measure, which makes it easy to remember. Everybody from the great-grandparents to fraternity brothers have loved this one. I prefer Bourbon, but any whiskey, rum, brandy could be substituted. (If you use vodka, please don't tell me!) The old folks claimed the original recipe called for a Quart of Whiskey, but a pint is perfect.

Provided by LOOOBEEE

Categories     Drinks Recipes

Time 15m

Yield 10

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 quart milk
1 pint heavy cream
12 egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 pint whiskey
12 egg whites
1 cup white sugar
1 pinch ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, blend the milk, cream, egg yolks, vanilla and whiskey using a hand mixer until smooth and creamy. In a separate bowl, whip egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually sprinkle in the sugar while continuing to whip until stiff. Fold the egg whites into the egg yolk mixture, and pour into a punch bowl or large pitcher. Serve in mugs or cups garnished with a sprinkle of nutmeg.

EGGNOG SMOOTHIE

Eggnog Smoothie image

I LOVE THIS. Okay, I thought this up a few nights ago when I wanted a banana smoothie but didn't have any milk in the fridge. I used regular (not low fat) egg nog from the store since it's what I had, but I'm sure the light kind would be just as good. I know fruit smoothies are usually a little healthier than this, but I think its perfect for brunch during the holidays! (Tip: Peel and break the bananas up before freezing them) Also, the store bought variety of egg nog keeps you from having to spice it yourself.

VEGAN EGGNOG SMOOTHIE BOWL (WITHOUT PROTEIN POWDER)

Vegan Eggnog Smoothie Bowl (Without Protein Powder) image

Provided by Allison

Categories     Breakfast

Time 2m

Number Of Ingredients 11

3/4 cup unsweetened non-dairy milk
1/4 cup rolled oats
1 large frozen banana
1 soft pitted Medjool date
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8-1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Pinch of cloves
Pinch of turmeric
1 tablespoon nut or seed butter
1 tablespoon ground flax or chia (this helps thicken the smoothie)
1 tablespoon hemp

Steps:

  • Combine the milk and rolled oats in a glass jar and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, scoop into an upright blender (preferably a high speed one). Add the date, frozen banana, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, turmeric, nut butter, flax, and hemp. Blend until smooth. (I don't use ice because I find that it makes the smoothie watery, but feel free to add an ice cube if you like.)
  • Transfer into a bowl and top with granola and fruit. I think this Cranberry, Orange, and Cardamom Granola would be good. I had some homemade pumpkin spice granola on hand from the Yum and Yummer cookbook, so that is what I used.
