For a taste of the South, bake Trisha Yearwood's Easy Peach Cobbler recipe from Trisha's Southern Kitchen on Food Network. Serve it topped with whipped cream.

Provided by Trisha Yearwood

Categories     dessert

Time 1h30m

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

Two 15-ounce cans sliced peaches in syrup
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1 cup self-rising flour
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
Homemade Whipped Cream, recipe follows
2 cups whipping cream, chilled in the fridge
4 tablespoons sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Drain 1 can of peaches; reserve the syrup from the other. Place the butter in a 9- by 12-inch ovenproof baking dish. Heat the butter on the stove or in the oven until it's melted. In a medium bowl, mix the flour and sugar. Stir in the milk and the reserved syrup. Pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish. Arrange the peaches over the batter. Bake for 1 hour. The cobbler is done when the batter rises around the peaches and the crust is thick and golden brown. Serve warm with fresh whipped cream
  • Chill a large metal mixing bowl and the wire beater attachment in the freezer for about 20 minutes. Pour the chilled cream and sugar into the cold mixing bowl and beat until it forms soft peaks, about 5 minutes. The mixture should hold its shape when dropped from a spoon. OLD-FASHIONED PEACH COBBLER

Old-Fashioned Peach Cobbler image

A buttery crust and juicy peaches combine to create this mouthwateringly easy old-fashioned peach cobbler - a traditional Deep South dessert.

Provided by The SouthernPlate Staff

Categories     Dessert

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 6

29 ounce can of peaches in light syrup (drained (the big can, it may be 28 oz))
1 cup milk
1 cup self-rising flour
1 cup sugar
1 stick butter
1 teaspoon (or two) of cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Drain peaches and set them aside.
  • Melt the stick of butter in an 8x8 baking dish (I just stick it in the oven while it is preheating).
  • Mix together the flour, sugar, and teaspoon of cinnamon until blended. Pour in milk and stir until blended again. After butter is melted, take the dish out of the oven and pour the batter on top of the butter, DON'T STIR.
  • Use a big spoon to set your peach slices down all over the top of the cobbler dough, DON'T STIR. They will sink down and it will all be fine. Just distribute them as best you can but don't move them around once you set them down.
  • If you want, sprinkle about a tablespoon of sugar and another teaspoon of cinnamon over the top of your peach mixture. Sometimes I do this, sometimes I don't.
  • Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until it's set in the center and golden brown on top. Let it cool and thicken for about 30 minutes before serving with vanilla ice cream.

EASY SOUTHERN PEACH COBBLER

Easy Southern Peach Cobbler image

Homemade peach cobbler is a classic dessert in any Southern home. Made the soul food way, this version is deep-dish, juicy, and buttery, with a double crust and plenty of cinnamon and nutmeg. It's simple to make, and easy even for novice bakers because it uses store-bought refrigerated pie crust. Take advantage of fresh peaches while they are in season from May through late September. Or use frozen peaches instead and just simmer the filling for about 10 minutes after you bring it to a boil. Note that the total time to make the recipe includes about 2 ½ hours for cooling. The recipe is a Yummly original created by Krysten and Marrekus Wilkes of [Cooks with Soul](https://www.yummly.com/dish/author/Cooks-with-Soul).

Provided by Yummly

Categories     Desserts

Time 4h

Number Of Ingredients 13

2 3/4 pounds peaches 6-8 yellow, firm-ripe
1/2 cup salted butter plus more, at room temperature, for greasing the dish
1/2 cup light brown sugar packed
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 refrigerated pie crusts store-bought, for a 9-inch pie
flour optional
1 large egg
1 teaspoon water

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (375°F if you're using a glass baking dish).
  • Fill a medium saucepan three-quarters full with water and bring to a boil. Add a few peaches at a time and cook just until the skin loosens easily with a knife tip, about 15 seconds. Remove peaches from water with a slotted spoon and let stand until cool enough to handle. Peel off skin, then cut peaches into wedges ½ to 1 inch thick.
  • Melt ½ cup butter in a Dutch oven or 5- to 6-quart pan over medium heat. Add sugars, cornstarch, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt to the pan and stir, then add peaches and stir to coat evenly. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat and let cool completely. To speed things up, transfer filling to a sheet pan and cool in the refrigerator.
  • With room temperature butter, grease a 1 ½-quart baking dish that's 2-½ to 3 inches deep and about 7x11 inches wide; or use an 8-inch square baking dish. If needed, roll out a single pastry dough round on a lightly floured surface to fit the shape of the dish. Press the single pastry dough round into the bottom and all the way up the sides of the dish and trim sides flush with top of dish.
  • On a work surface, cut the second pastry dough round into strips 1-inch wide (or use the dough as a full sheet, rolling to fit the shape of the dish if needed). Pour the cooled peach filling into the lined dish. Arrange half the dough strips on top in one direction, then the remaining strips over them in the opposite direction to create a lattice. If using the full sheet, set it on top of the filling, letting the edges come up the sides of the dish a little, and cut a few slits in the center.
  • Whisk egg in a small bowl to blend with the water. Brush top of dough with egg wash.
  • Bake cobbler until golden brown and bubbling, 45-55 minutes. Let cool at least 2 hours before serving.

BLACK FOLKS SOUTHERN PEACH COBBLER RECIPE

Black Folks Southern Peach Cobbler Recipe image

This soul food dessert and the darling favorite of the South is loaded with fresh, juicy peaches and topped with a light and airy cinnamon sugar crust. A cobbler so delicious, you may want to eat it all. All by yourself!

Provided by Shaunda Necole

Categories     Dessert

Time 1h

Number Of Ingredients 12

4 cups peaches (ripe & fresh, peeled and sliced (or two 28 oz. canned peaches, drained))
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
½ teaspoon ginger (minced)
¼ cup water (cold)
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 cups Bisquick (*See the notes below for how to make homemade Bisquick from scratch!)
1 cup milk
¾ cup sugar (granulated )
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup butter (melted )

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Place the butter in the baking dish and then place the dish in the oven to melt the butter while the oven is preheating.
  • Remove the melted butter from the oven after a few minutes and set it aside.
  • Peel and slice the peaches into quarters, and then halve the quartered peach slices. (If using canned peaches, use a colander to drain the peach juice before slicing them).
  • In a medium-sized bowl, mix the ingredients for the peach filling: peaches, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. (I mixed the peach cobbler filling in my Instant Pot inner pot with the lid off and the 'keep warm' setting on.)
  • Add the cornstarch to the cold water and stir until smooth.
  • Pour the cornstarch mixture into the peach mixture.
  • Stir the peach mixture to combine the ingredients and then set aside.
  • In a second medium-sized bowl, whisk the ingredients for the cobbler batter: Bisquick, milk, sugar, and vanilla.
  • Pour the Bisquick mixture over the melted butter in the baking pan.
  • Then, pour the peaches into the Bisquick mixture (the dough will rise around the peaches as it bakes).
  • Bake at 350 degrees F for 50-60 minutes in the conventional oven. Bake at 350 degrees F for 35-45 minutes if using the Instant Pot Omni Plus oven. Watch the cobbler while baking, and bake until the cobbler dough is golden brown.
  • To test if the cobbler is done, insert a toothpick into the center of the cobbler dough. If it comes out clean, then it is done.
  • Serve Black folks Southern peach cobbler recipe warm, and enjoy!

EASY PEACH COBBLER

Easy Peach Cobbler image

You can't be considered a serious southern cook if you don't know how to make peach cobbler. Canned or frozen fruit works better in some recipes than fresh, and this is a perfect example. I recommend any brand of canned freestone peaches because they are tender and tasty. This dessert is easy to make and it tastes delicious, especially with a huge dollop of Home-Churned Ice Cream (page 212) on top.

Yield serves 8

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 15-ounce cans sliced peaches in syrup
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1 cup self-rising flour (see Note)
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Drain 1 can of peaches; reserve the syrup from the other.
  • Place the butter in a 9 × 12-inch ovenproof baking dish. Heat the butter in the oven until it's melted. In a medium bowl, mix the flour and sugar. Stir in the milk and the reserved syrup. Carefully remove the baking dish from the oven and pour the batter over the melted butter. Arrange the peaches over the batter. Bake for 1 hour. The cobbler is done when the batter rises around the peaches and the crust is thick and golden brown. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
  • This forms its own top crust while it bakes.
  • Two types of peaches, freestone and clingstone, are just what the terms suggest. The flesh of a ripe freestone variety pulls easily away from the pit or stone, while the clingstone flesh, well, clings! Go online to www.lanepacking.com for all the scoop on Georgia peaches.
  • If you don't have self-rising flour, substitute 1 cup all-purpose flour mixed with 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder and 1/8 teaspoon salt.
