EASY SALISBURY STEAK

For the steaks
1 lb lean ground beef (I use 90%)
1/3 cup Italian Style Breadcrumbs
1 egg, beaten
2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
Salt & Pepper to taste
2 tsp Olive Oil
Optional: 1 onion, diced - I prefer to saute the onion with mushrooms later, to top the steaks with instead of mixing in the meat mixture but it can be done either way or both ways!
For the Gravy
1 packet, brown gravy sauce
1 cup water
Mushrooms & Onions
8 oz mushrooms, sliced
2 onions, thinly sliced
2 tbsp butter

Steps:

  • For the Steaks In a large mixing bowl, combine the beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, and salt and pepper. Shape the mixture into 4 equal sized hamburger shaped patties. Heat up Olive Oil in a skillet over Medium Heat. Once hot, add beef patties to heat, lying flat in a single layer. Cook 5-6 minutes on each side, until heated through (patties should be a minimum of 160 degrees. For the Gravy Follow package directions. I use McCormick Brown Gravy, purchased in bulk. The instructions say, Stir water gradually into Gravy Mix with whisk in small saucepan. Stirring frequently, cook on medium heat until gravy comes to boil. Reduce heat and simmer 1 minute. (Gravy will thicken upon standing.) Serve over Salisbury Steak. *Can double recipe to have enough to pour over mashed potatoes! Mushrooms and Onions Melt the butter in the skillet. Add the onion and mushroom slices. Saute until onion slices are translucent and soft. Plate one Salisbury Steak patty per person, top with onions & mushrooms, then gravy. Serve and enjoy!

1 lb 7% lean ground beef
1 1/4 ounces dry onion, mix
14 1/2 ounces nonfat beef broth
10 1/2 ounces fat-free cream of mushroom soup
Pam cooking spray

Steps:

  • Spray large skillet with Pam.
  • Pour half can of beef broth and package of dry onion soup mix in bowl, mix well.
  • Add beef, mix well, will get mushy.
  • Carefully form 4 patties ( might have to do in skillet pan).
  • Brown all 4 patties, carefully turning.
  • Mix together rest of beef broth and cream of mushroom soup together, pour over patties,
  • Let simmer 30 minutes.

My mom would make this for us growing up. It was one of those easy dinners that we all loved to eat at the family table. Now we are still passing it down. My 17-month-old daughter LOVES this recipe. You can add other vegetables if you want (i.e. green onions, fennel, mushrooms, etc.). It can also be made with ground pork.

1 pound ground beef
½ cup rolled oats
1 egg, beaten
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons ketchup
2 tablespoons water
1 ½ teaspoons dried minced onion
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 large onion, sliced into rings
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 (10.75 ounce) can milk

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Mix ground beef, oats, egg, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, water, dried minced onion, salt, and pepper in a bowl until evenly combined; shape into 6 oval-shaped patties.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Cook patties in hot skillet until browned completely, 2 minutes per side. Transfer browned patties to a baking dish.
  • Top patties with onion rings. Stir mushroom soup and milk together in a bowl; pour over patties. Cover baking dish with aluminum foil.
  • Bake in preheated oven until firm, hot, and grey in the center, about 45 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read 160 degrees F (70 degrees C).

2 tablespoons dry bread crumbs
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon pepper
3/4 pound lean ground beef
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour, divided
2 teaspoons olive oil
3/4 cup water
2 tablespoons ketchup
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon beef bouillon granules
1 medium onion, quartered and sliced
1 can (4 ounces) mushroom stems and pieces, drained

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine the egg, bread crumbs, garlic powder and pepper. Crumble beef over mixture; mix well. Shape into two patties; dredge in 2 tablespoons flour. In a small skillet, brown patties on both sides in oil; drain. Set patties aside., Add the remaining flour to the skillet; whisk in water until smooth. Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and bouillon. Add the onion and mushrooms. Bring to a boil. Return patties to the pan. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until beef is no longer pink. Serve gravy over patties.

This is so easy and always turns out. Mashed potatoes or rice go well with this dish. You can make this a very elegant or casual dinner. It also reheats well.

1/2 lb lean ground beef
1/2 lb ground pork
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs (or soak a fresh piece of bread in water a few minutes, squeeze out water and tear up bread into meat)
1 egg
2 -3 tablespoons freshly chopped parsley
1 pinch oregano
fresh salt & pepper
flour (for dredging)
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, heated
1 package dry onion soup mix
1 can beer or 3/4 cup ginger ale (I prefer the first two because the gingerale makes it sweet...children prefer the gingerale)
1/2 cup water, if sauce is too thick add more
1/2-1 cup freshly sliced mushrooms (optional)

Steps:

  • In a medium size bowl mix meats, water, crumbs, egg, and spices.
  • Make rounded balls the size of your palm and slightly flatten to resemble a hamburger but not quite as flat.
  • Now roll in flour.
  • Pat on so it sticks well.
  • Put into heated oil and brown quickly on all sides.
  • Don't cook it through.
  • This is just to seal it.
  • Pour off excess grease, if any.
  • Pour in wine,water, and the pkg.
  • of onion soup.
  • (and the mushrooms if you like) Turn heat Medium-High only until it starts to cook then done to Simmer on stove top.
  • Let it simmer until the steaks are tender about 20-25 min.
  • If you like more gravy, in a jar with a lid put 2 Tblsp.
  • flour and 2 Tblsp.
  • cold water,cover quickly and shake vigorously.
  • This will take out the lumps.
  • Take out the steaks, pour in the flour/water mixture into the gravy already in the pan.
  • Stir until the right consistency.
  • If the gravy seems a little light in color add a little gravy master to it and a few grinds of the pepper mill.
