CHEDDAR ONION DROP BISCUITS

These tasty biscuits have a savory Cheddar and onion flavor. Perfect with a bowl of chili or hearty soup in the winter or a main dish salad in the summer.

2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon dried minced onion
½ cup shredded Parmesan cheese
1 ½ cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
1 cup 1% buttermilk

Steps:

  • Preheat an oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Whisk the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together in a bowl. Cut the butter into the flour mixture until the mixture resembles course crumbs. Stir the onion, Parmesan cheese, and Cheddar cheese into the flour mixture. Pour the buttermilk into the bowl; stir until evenly combined. Drop by 1/4-cupfuls onto prepared baking sheet, about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until the tops of the biscuits are lightly browned, 12 to 15 minutes. Serve warm.

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup thinly sliced green onions
2 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
6 tablespoons cold butter, cubed
1 egg
3/4 cup buttermilk

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine the flour, onions, sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Combine egg and buttermilk; stir into crumb mixture just until moistened. , Drop by 1/4 cupfuls 2 in. apart onto a greased baking sheet. Bake at 400° for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.
  • Put the flour, baking powder, and salt in a food processor and pulse briefly to mix. Add the butter and pulse until the mixture is crumbly. Add green onion and Parmesan and pulse just enough to blend. Add the milk and pulse until combined. Drop the dough in rounded tablespoons onto a greased baking sheet, and bake until golden, about 13 to 15 minutes.

6 cups all-purpose flour
4 tablespoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 sticks cold butter, cut into pieces
3 1/2 cups whole milk
Melted butter, for brushing, optional

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Place the flour, baking powder and salt into a food processor and pulse a few times to combine. Add the butter and pulse until the dry ingredients and the butter are mostly combined. (Alternatively, cut the butter into the dry ingredients with a pastry cutter.) Drizzle in the milk and pulse (or stir) just until the dough comes together. Do not over mix.
  • Using a regular table spoon, or large spoon, drop spoonfuls of the mixture onto baking trays and bake until nice golden brown, 20 to 25 minutes. If desired, brush with melted butter after you remove them from the oven.

1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 1/3 cups chilled whipping cream
1 1/2 cups thinly sliced green onions
2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) butter, melted

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425°F. Mix flour, baking powder, salt and pepper in large bowl. Mix cream and green onions in medium bowl. Add cream mixture to dry ingredients. Stir until moist clumps form.
  • Transfer dough to floured work surface. Knead just until dough holds together, about 8 turns. Shape into 8-inch square. Cut out sixteen 2-inch square biscuits. Transfer biscuits to large baking sheet, spacing 1 1/2 inches apart. Brush top of biscuits with melted butter. Bake biscuits until golden and cooked through, about 18 minutes. Serve warm. (Can be made 8 hours ahead. Cool. Wrap in foil. Store at room temperature. Rewarm wrapped biscuits in 350°F. oven until heated through, about 8 minutes.)
