From Betty's Soul Food Collection... Nothing beats a warm, nourishing pork stew on a cold winter's night. Our quick recipe takes it up a notch, with a subtle sweetness from sweet potatoes and corn.

Steps:
- In large bowl, mix pork cubes, flour and seasoned salt until pork is coated. In 12-inch nonstick skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add pork; cook 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned.
- Add remaining ingredients to pork in skillet. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 30 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pork is tender.

DOWN HOME COUNTRY STEW
This is a great winter warmer-upper!! Beef and vegetables are simmered in a tomato based stew. This is great with corn bread and cheese.

- Crumble the ground beef into a large skillet over medium heat. Cook and stir until evenly browned. Drain grease, and set aside.
- Pour the tomato sauce, corn, peas, and carrots into a soup pot or saucepan. Add the ground beef, potatoes, and onion. Simmer over medium heat until potatoes are tender, about 20 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, and serve.

Steps:
- Combine 1 cup potato, turnips, and 1 can of broth in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer 8 minutes.
- Combine potato mixture and milk in blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
- Heat butter in large heavy saucepan over medium-low heat. Add leek, thyme and garlic. Cook 12 minutes until leek is tender.
- Add 1 cup of potato, 1 can of broth, and carrot. Cover and simmer 8 minutes.
- Stir in greens and chicken. Cover and simmer another 12 minutes until chicken is cooked through.
- Stir in potato puree, vinegar, pepper sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer, uncovered, a further 6 minutes.

DOWN HOME TURKEY STEW
A comforting and delicious "stew" or "soup" (Depending on whether you thicken it or not) that our family has been enjoying for many years. I hope you will enjoy it as well. :) Because the onion soup mix, steak sauce and the beef base contain so much sodium I do not use extra salt in the recipe. You may do so if you choose but please taste the "stew" first before salting. Ground beef can be substituted for the ground turkey.

Steps:
- In a large pot, saute carrots and onions in olive oil over medium-high heat until onions get tender but do not brown.
- Add ground turkey and cook until meat is cooked through. Cover with water just until all ingredients are submerged. (If you add too much water you will dilute the broth).
- Add dry onion soup mix, beef base, steak sauce, potatoes and pepper to taste.
- Add more water if needed just to cover.
- Continue cooking over med-high heat until potatoes are done. Enjoy!
- *You may thicken this if you like with whatever you use to thicken broth with but remember to taste and adjust seasonings if need be.
- This recipe tastes even better when made a day ahead. :).
- **Mrs. Grass dry onion soup mix has a different taste variation then Liptons dry onion soup mix so the outcome will taste somewhat different.
