water
sugar

cloves

baking soda
milk
vanilla
powdered sugar

Steps:

Combine the following in a medium saucepan: 1 cup water 1 cup sugar 1 stick butter (1/2 cup) 1 teaspoon cinnamon ½ teaspoon nutmeg ¼ teaspoon ground cloves ¼ teaspoon salt 1cup raisins 1 teaspoon vanilla Bring to a boil. Simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Add the following: 1 teaspoon baking soda 2 cups flour (sifted after measuring) ¼ to ½ cup chopped walnuts (optional) Stir well to combine. Spread mixture on greased cookie sheet. Bake for 20 minutes. Glaze while warm. Cool and cut into bars. Glaze: ¾ cup confectioner's sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 teaspoon butter 1 tablespoon milk 1 tablespoon water Combine in saucepan and heat until well blended.
