BEST RAMEN FLAVORS RANKED FROM WORST TO BEST

From mashed.com
Author Sophia Hart
  • Chicken. Chicken flavored ramen is the best kind of ramen out there. Maruchan sells this flavor in brightly colored orange packets. When you cook up a pot of chicken ramen, you're met with a warm, classic, one-of-a-kind taste that is a real hit.
  • Beef. Beef is a highly popular ramen flavor. If you're wondering about the difference between steak and beef-flavored ramen, steak refers to specific cuts of the cow, while beef can entail any cut of meat.
  • Shrimp. There's nothing like a fresh serving of shrimp. Shrimp is commonly found in Italian or Southern-style dishes. Whether you're dipping individual pieces of shrimp into a refreshing shrimp cocktail or swallowing spoonfuls of a properly made dish of spicy shrimp fra diavolo, this crustacean is a wonderful addition to any meal for seafood lovers all over the country.
  • Steak. A nice cut of steak, served with some asparagus and a sweet bread roll, makes for a highly satisfying meal. Whether you slow cook your meat in the oven or grill it on a hot summer day, steak is a highly flavorful dish that will leave you satisfied, no matter which cuts of steak you choose.
  • Turkey. There are most likely two types of meat families tend to gravitate towards if they celebrate Thanksgiving: Ham and turkey. While some people prefer a honey-baked ham during the festive fall season, many others prefer a classic but tasteful plate of turkey.
  • Pork. Bacon, ham, or a fresh suckling cutlet: Meat lovers among us most likely love a good cut of pig. Whether you're preparing a juicy pork loin to put in the oven or making some crispy, carefully fried bacon, if your meal includes pig meat of some kind, you know you're in for a good time.
  • Chili. There's nothing like heat and spice to liven the senses and comfort a flavor craving at the same time. By this logic, a bowl of chili ramen sounds like the perfect dish.
  • Soy sauce. Soy sauce is a highly versatile, commonly-used condiment. The salty, sodium-filled sauce is commonly used in meat dishes and in Asian cuisines.
  • Veggie. We all need a dose of vegetables in our diets, and some seasoned, baked, or lightly salted greens, cauliflower, carrots, or other veggies are a perfect addition to any dish.
  • Cheese. There's something incredibly comforting about a bowl of hot, creamy mac and cheese. This delicious dish is often served in a bowl with crumbled crackers on top or with a side of greens.

THE 12 BEST (AND WORST) RAMEN NOODLE FLAVORS, RANKED

  • Kimchi. Last but not least, the number one flavor with an average of 8.1/10 is the Shinn ramen flavored with real kimchi. This ramen was honestly awesome.
  • Shinn Black (Spicy Port-au-feu Flavor) Yeah, I have no idea what Port-au-feu is but it is damn tasty, that’s for sure. It’s definitely a more enjoyable flavor than the plain Shinn red, since it did rank higher, although I’m honestly not sure why… It just was?
  • Tonkotsu Pork. Another tie! For third place with a score of 7.5/10, the tonkotsu pork flavor tied with Shinn black. This tonkotsu pork was definitely interesting.
  • Fire. With a score of 7.3/10, this “fire” ramen placed fourth. I actually have no idea what this flavor is called because I can’t read Korean, but the cartoon has fire coming out of its mouth so that’s what I decided to call it.
  • Shinn Gourmet Spicy. Shinn ramen placed fifth with an average score of 6.7, and I’m actually a little sad it didn’t place higher because it’s actually my go-to ramen choice.
  • Spicy Seafood. With a 6.5/10, this spicy seafood flavor came in sixth place. While there was definitely a kick with this ramen, there wasn’t really any other flavor that accompanied it.
  • Miso. This miso ramen placed eighth with a 6.1/10. Similar to the Oriental and the original flavor, it has a lot of potential for adding ingredients because there isn’t anything that could make a real negative impact.
  • Original. I’m very unsure what “original” flavor entails, but it’s obviously not bad. It scored 5.7/10, mostly because it was inoffensive enough and had potential for any sort of additions.
  • Chapagetti. I’m gonna be honest, I was skeptical about this flavor because I have no idea what this is supposed to be. Everyone seemed pretty neutral about, though, it so maybe I’ll work it into my rotation of ramen.
  • Chicken. This is actually a tie! With an average score of 5.5/10, both the chicken flavor and the chapagetti came in third to last. The chicken flavor is a classic, and it very honestly reminds me of my childhood.

EVERY MARUCHAN RAMEN FLAVOR, RANKED WORST TO BEST

  • Soy Sauce. This may be a controversial ranking, but we believe in standing up for ourselves and speaking the truth, even when it's difficult. That's why we have to place Soy Sauce at the very top of our list.
  • Roast Chicken. Just because the plain Chicken is the best seller on the Maruchan lineup doesn't mean it's actually the best. We don't mean any disrespect to the classic Chicken: It's up so far in our ranking for a reason.
  • Lime Chili Shrimp. We know what we said about the original Shrimp flavor, and we stand by it. It's not very good, and the vaguely fishy smell really turns us off.
  • Chicken. Another classic ... who hasn't had an orange packet of Chicken Maruchan in their pantry at some point in their lives? In fact, this may be the most classic of all the Maruchan flavors.
  • Beef. You can never go wrong with a classic, which is why Beef ranks so high at the top of our list of Maruchan flavors. It's probably one of the first ramen flavors you tried, and therefore, it's probably one of your favorites.
  • Picante Chicken. It's already been established that Maruchan did a less-than-stellar job when it came to the Chili flavor. Where was the spice, where was the taste?
  • Pork. Chances are, if you've ever ordered ramen from a Japanese restaurant, the soup you got was made with pork broth. This is known as tonkotsu ramen, and it's perhaps the most recognizable kind of ramen to people in the West.
  • Roast Beef. If you usually buy Maruchan ramen at your local grocery store, then you may not come upon the Roast Beef flavor very often. For some reason, we never seem to see the Roast Beef flavor when we're out and about.
  • Shrimp. What could go wrong with adding seafood flavoring to an ultra-processed and artificial product? A lot, apparently. Maruchan's Shrimp flavor doesn't taste that shrimpy — instead, it has just a hint of a "bottom of the ocean" taste to it.
  • Creamy Chicken. In theory, the Creamy Chicken flavor of Maruchan ramen should be amazing. Just think of all of your favorite creamy pasta dishes. However, this ramen isn't really what you would call pasta.
