Homemade Teriyaki Sauce image

Simple and easy homemade teriyaki sauce. Never buy a bottle again! Keep careful watch over sauce when it's over heat. Increase or reduce the amount of garlic, onion, and ginger to your liking. While hot, pour immediately over chicken, veggies, stir fry, etc., or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for a week.

½ cup low-sodium soy sauce
½ cup white sugar
¼ cup cider vinegar
1 tablespoon water
1 ½ teaspoons garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon ground ginger
1 tablespoon cornstarch

Steps:

  • Combine soy sauce, sugar, vinegar, water, garlic powder, onion powder, and ground ginger in a saucepan over medium heat. Add cornstarch and mix thoroughly. Cook until bubbles start to appear, about 3 minutes. Reduce heat to low. Simmer until thickened, 5 to 10 minutes, stirring frequently.

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Refrigerate for 1 hour. May also be used as a great marinade for chicken, shrimp or beef.

Yes, I did. A dark, rich twist on traditional Japanese teriyaki. I know it sounds weird, but you'll have to try it...it's a big hit over beef, pork or mushroom dishes or try it over a crock pot full of meatballs.

2 teaspoons sesame oil
5 ounces soy sauce (use a high quality shoyu)
2 ounces cold water
1 ounce mirin (can substitute cooking sherry)
2 tablespoons freshly grated gingerroot
3 -4 ounces sugar (to taste)
8 ounces bittersweet chocolate pieces

Steps:

  • Add first 5 ingredients to a saute pan over medium heat.
  • Once the mixture begins to boil, add the desired amount of sugar and stir gently to dissolve.
  • Allow sugar to caramelize slightly (mixture will begin to thicken), remove from heat and add chocolate. Stir until velvety smooth and enjoy!
