This recipe was handed down from my dad. I adjusted it to go into the slow cooker. It's a lot easier. Just set it and forget it.

1 (16 ounce) package dried navy beans
4 cups water, or more as needed
½ cup molasses
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt
¾ teaspoon dry mustard
⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
¼ pound salt pork, thinly sliced
1 onion, sliced

Steps:

  • Place the navy beans into a large container and cover with several inches of cool water; let stand 8 hours to overnight. Drain and transfer beans to a pot; add enough water to cover beans.
  • Bring water to a boil, reduce heat, cover pot, and simmer until beans are slightly tender, about 1 hour.
  • Mix 4 cups water, molasses, brown sugar, salt, mustard, and pepper together in a bowl until smooth.
  • Mix beans, salt pork, and onion together in a slow cooker. Add molasses mixture and more water to cover beans if needed; stir well.
  • Cook on Low for 8 to 10 hours.

12 oz can bush baked beans
1/2 small yellow onion, minced
4 slice maple bacon, diced
2 Tbsp black coffee
1/2 tsp chili powder
4 Tbsp brown sugar

Steps:

  • 1. Cook bacon half way through; add onion and 2 tablespoons of the brown sugar and the chili powder. Add the bacon and onion mixture to the baked beans and heat until bubbly. Add the coffee and remaining brown sugar.

5 hot dogs, sliced
1-1/2 cups ketchup
1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/4 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • In an ungreased 2-qt. baking dish, combine all ingredients. Cover and bake at 350° for 1 to 1-1/2 hours or until heated through.

Cowboy Beans are a great side dish or main course...it makes the perfect dish for potlucks, cookouts, camping trips, or parties. This delicious recipe is made with a variety of beans, ground beef, and delicious bacon. Cooked over a grill in a skillet adds even more flavor, but isn't required.

1 lb ground beef, browned
1 lb bacon
2 tbsp bacon drippings
3 15 oz cans kidney beans
3 15 oz cans white beans
3 15 oz cans pork and beans
3 small onions, diced
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup molasses
3 tbsp yellow mustard

Steps:

  • In a large cast iron skillet, fry bacon until crisp. Drain and crumble.
  • In the same cast iron skillet, cook the ground beef and onions until the meat is no longer pink, drain off excess liquid.
  • Drain off all the beans except for one can of pork and beans, Combine the beans, cooked beef, bacon, and onions and remaining ingredients.
  • Cook on grill until hot and beans are tender. Optional: Cook in oven on 350 until beans are cooked well if grill not available.

These sweet and smokey baked beans are the perfect side dish to pair with grilled and smoked meats.

1 pound navy beans (dried)
7 cups water (divided)
6 slices bacon (thick cut)
1 medium yellow onion (diced)
1 medium green pepper (diced)
2 cloves garlic (minced)
2 Tablespoon tomato paste
½ cup barbecue sauce
¼ cup ketchup
½ cup brown sugar
¼ cup molasses
1 teaspoon dried mustard

Steps:

  • Add dried beans and 6 cups of water to Instant Pot and cook for 20 minutes on manual (high pressure) then allow pressure to naturally release. Drain beans then set aside.
  • Set Instant Pot to saute and add allow to preheat then add bacon and cook for 4-5 minutes until crispy. Add the chopped onion and pepper and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened then add the garlic and cook another 30-45 seconds. Set the Instant Pot to OFF. Add the tomato paste and cook for 1 minute stirring frequently.
  • Stir in the remaining 1 cup of water, barbecue sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, and dried mustard. When serving with barbecue I also like to add in 2 teaspoons of my dry rub but that is optional. Stir until well combined then add the beans back to the pot.
  • Cover and seal the Instant Pot then cook for 15 minutes on manual (high pressure) then allow pressure to naturally release.

This is my dads recipe for Boston Baked Beans. They are sweet and a little tangy what beans should taste like to me. The end result can be a little juicy, if you like your beans thicker, by all means just cook them to the consistency that you prefer. Also, the mustard and ketchup are not set in stone, they are simply one part mustard to three parts ketchup.

1 lb white pea beans
1 large onion
6 cups water
1/4 cup mustard
3/4 cup ketchup
3 tablespoons molasses
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 lb salt pork
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Put your beans in a baking dish to soak overnight with the water and the onion.
  • The next day boil your beans in the soaking water until the crack when pushed between two spoons.
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Celsius.
  • Mix together the mustard, ketchup, molasses and brown sugar and add to the boiling water. You can add your salt and pepper here to.
  • Cut your salt pork, or any other pork product you would like to use and add this to the mixture as well.
  • Put in oven and check after an hour and a half for moisture levels. If you feel it needs more water add about 1/4 cup at a time.
  • Remove from oven after another hour and a half cooking time and check the constancy, It should be juicy but not watery.

Steps:

  • soak beans overnight, drain.
  • add beans to large pot, cover w/water, bring to boil, lower to simmer for 1 hour preheat oven to 300.
  • in ovenproof dish mix next 7 ingredients.
  • saute bacon until semi cooked, add to dish.
  • add onions, beans, mix and bake 2 hours, covered.
  • add rum and bake uncovered 1 hour.

1 pound dry navy or pinto beans (or a combination)
8 cups water
8 slices bacon (chopped)
1 medium yellow onion (finely chopped)
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons onion powder
1 cup barbecue sauce
¾ cup brown sugar (packed)
2 tablespoons spicy brown or Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon liquid smoke

Steps:

  • Add beans and water to Instant Pot, lock the lid into place and cook on High for 25 minutes
  • Carefully quick release the steam valve
  • When the steam has completely released, pour cooked beans into a colander and drain off any water
  • Set the Instant Pot to saute and add the chopped bacon
  • Stir and cook for 5-8 minutes or until crispy
  • Add the onions and continue cooking 3-4 minutes or until softened
  • Add the beans back into the pot with the remaining ingredients
  • Place lid on pot and cook on high for 10 minutes
  • Carefully quick release the steam valve
  • Remove the lid, stir and serve immediately
  • Store leftovers in refrigerator
