- Combine brown sugar, butter and syrup in 2-quart saucepan. Cook over medium-high heat 2-3 minutes or until mixture comes to a boil. Continue cooking 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add baking soda; mix well.
- Pour syrup mixture over cereal; stir gently until well coated. Bake 20 minutes; stir. Continue baking 20 minutes. Stir in peanuts and/or candy.
- Spread mixture onto waxed paper; cool 30 minutes. Break cooled mixture into pieces. Store in loosely covered container.
