CRISCO CARAMEL OATMEAL BARS

Family Favorite. We use semi-sweet chocolate chips instead of milk chocolate and we prefer pecans instead of walnuts. There are several variations to this recipe you just have to be creative.

Number Of Ingredients 11

3/4 cup butter-flavor Crisco sticks or 3/4 cup crisco butter flavor shortening
1 1/2 cups quick oats, uncooked (not instant or old fashioned)
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour, plus
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour, divided
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 1/3 cups milk chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 (12 1/2 ounce) jar caramel topping

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350*F.
  • Spray bottom and sides of 9x9x2-inch pan with no-stick cooking spray; set aside.
  • In the bowl of an electric mixer combine shortening, oats, sugar, all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking soda and cinnamon.
  • Mix at low speed until crumbs form.
  • Reserve 1/2 cup for topping.
  • Press remaining crumbs into prepared pan.
  • Bake 10 minutes.
  • Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts over crust.
  • In a medium bowl combine caramel topping and remaining 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour.
  • Stir until well blended.
  • Drizzle over chocolate chips and nuts.
  • Sprinkle reserved 1/2 cup crumbs over caramel topping.
  • Return to oven and bake 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Run spatula around edge of pan before cooling.
  • Cool completely in pan on wire rack.
  • Cut into 1-1/2x1-1/2 inch squares.

Got this recipe from a friend who use to demo Pampered Chef products. Think this is one of their recipes that became a family favorite.

2 cups old fashioned oats
1 3/4 cups flour
3/4 cup dark brown sugar, packed
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup butter, melted
1 cup caramel ice cream topping
1/2 cup pecans, chopped
6 ounces miniature semisweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Spray 15 by 10 baking dish with nonstick. Combine the oats, 1 and 1/2 cups of the flour, brown sugar and baking soda. Add butter; mix until crumbly. Set aside 1 cup of oatmeal mixture. Press remaining amount of oatmeal mixture into and even layer on bottom of baking dish. Bake for 15 minutes.
  • Combine caramel topping and remaining 1/4 cup flour in a small bowl and whisk until smooth. Drizzle over oatmeal crust; carefully spread to edges.
  • Combine pecans and remaining crumb mixture. Sprinkle over caramel layer. Then evenly sprinkle mixture with mini chocolate chips. Bake 15 to 18 minutes or until golden and bubbly.

Number Of Ingredients 9

32 unwrapped caramels
5 tablespoons evaporated milk
1 cup flour
1 cup oatmeal
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup butter or 3/4 cup margarine
2 cups chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Press half of oatmeal mixture into a 9 x 13 pan Bake at 350° for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and sprinkle on enough chocolate chips to cover.
  • Then top with caramel mixture, then remaining oatmeal mixture.
  • Bake another 15-18 minutes.
  • Cool and cut.
