Steps:
- Mix all ingredients well and store in a tightly sealed container.
- To make Gravy: Discard all but 2 tablespoons of the oil used to fry the chicken (or melt 2 tablespoons unsalted butter) in a skillet.
- Over low heat, mix in 2 tablespoons of the Country Gravy Mix.
- Stirring constantly, cook about 2 minutes. Whisk in 1 cup chicken broth, scraping browned bits off bottom of skillet.
- Stir in 1 cup milk and bring all to a boil over high heat, stirring constantly.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer about 5 minutes.
- Serve immediately with chicken, mashed potatoes or biscuits.

A simple country gravy mix that is great in a gift basket of breakfast items. Or as a start to biscuits and sausage gravy

- 1. In a mixing bowl add everything and mix well. Put in a 1 pint jar and decorate as you wish for the ocassion. Include a tag
- 2. Country gravy mix. In a saucepan mix 1/2 cup milk and 1/12 cup water. add 1/3 cup country gravy mix and cook over med heat until it comes to boil. cook 1-2 minutes until it thickens to desired amount. serve over mash potatoes and country fried chicken or steak. For sausage gravy in a saucepan add 1/2 pack of sausage (Links, rounds or bulk) and 1 small onion diced. Cook until done chopping and smashing to create small chunks or loose meat. when ready add 1/2 cup milk and 1 1/2 cup water and 1/3 cup mix, simmer until thicken. Serve over biscuits.
CREAMY WILD RICE AND MUSHROOM SOUP IN A JAR
I was a member of a professional organization and we sold this soup mix in jars to raise money. It is really good, especially in the fall and winter. I will list the instructions for using it as a fund raiser at the end of the cooking instructions. Cook time is for prep and simmer time when cooking, not preparing for fund raiser. Steps:
- To cook; put all ingredients in a large saucepan.
- Add 7 cups of water. Heat to boiling.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 25-30 minutes, until rice is tender, stirring occasionally.
- Garnish with chopped fresh parsley.
- For fund raising, you will need 1 pint jar with lid and ring for each recipe,a decorative piece of material cut into an 8 or 10 inch circle and raffia ribbon or twine.
- Place each ingredient in the jar in the order listed, except the chicken.
- Place lid and ring on jar, sealing tightly by hand.
- Place the can of chicken on top of the jar.
- Center the circle of material on top and tie the ribbon around the material at the level of where the jar neck starts.
- If selling these for a seasonal fund raising, try to find material appropriate for the season, such as fall or Christmas!
- These were very popular at our fund raising!

This is a beautiful example of classic, very old-school American country cooking. There are a lot of variations, and this is my favorite. This goes on fried chicken, country-fried steak, and biscuits.

Steps:
- Melt butter in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat; cook sausage and bacon in the hot butter, stirring to break the sausage up into small pieces, until sausage is browned and bacon is almost crisp, about 10 minutes. Mix 1/2 cup green onion into sausage mixture and saute until onions are soft, about 3 more minutes.
- Stir flour into meat mixture, 1 to 2 tablespoons at a time, until thoroughly combined and mixture is pasty. Cook, stirring often, 2 to 3 minutes to remove raw taste of flour.
- Whisk milk into meat mixture, about 1 cup at a time, until combined. Continue to whisk until gravy begins to thicken, about 5 minutes. Turn heat to medium-high, bring gravy to a simmer, and season with a pinch of cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Reduce heat to medium-low.
- Continue to simmer gravy until flavors have blended and gravy is thick, 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon green onion and a pinch of cayenne pepper for garnish.
