CARAMEL MACCHIATO
If you've got an espresso/cappuccino machine you're well on your way to recreating a top-choice Starbucks coffee drink. For the caramel part, you can use any caramel sauce that you find in the grocery store near the ice cream toppings. Pick your favorite. Just note that to make this recipe work best you'll only need 3 tablespoons of a richer caramel sauce (like the stuff Starbucks uses), but more like 4 tablespoons of a lighter sauce (such as fat-free Smuckers). For the vanilla syrup you can use the bottled syrups, such as those made by Torani, or just whip up a your own clone from scratch. By the way, if you want to make this clone super accurate, pick up bottles of the authentic vanilla syrup and caramel sauce sold in Starbucks stores.

- You can use vanilla syrup from a bottle for the drink or make your own vanilla syrup following this Top Secret Recipe: Simply combine 2 cups water and 1 1/2 cups sugar in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, then add 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract.
- Remove from heat and cool.
- Store in a covered container.
- To make your coffee drink, add two tablespoon of vanilla syrup to a 16-ounce glass.
- Add 1/2 cup fresh brewed espresso followed by 8 ounces of steamed milk.
- Add 3 to 4 tablespoons caramel sauce to the drink.
- Stir before drinking.

- Put 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup into 16-20oz coffee mug.
- Add vanilla syrup to mug .
- Pour in the coffee.
- Put hot milk in blender and carefully blend until very frothy.
- Make sure cover is on tight! Start the blending on low and move up to high. There will be a good inch of foam on the top if it is hot and done correctly. Be careful though.the steam can cause pressure to build in the blender and the top to pop off.
- Carefully pour the steamed milk over the coffee.
- Drizzle with half the caramel syrup.
- Pile on the whipped cream.
- Drizzle with the remaining caramel syrup.
- Drizzle with remaining chocolate syrup.

- Spoon very small amount of foamed milk on top of espresso.

"I like YOUR coffee best" insists DH. I developed this mixture as a copycat of Starbuck's Caramel Macchiato, but using my half-caffeinated, half-decaffeinated coffee mix (I use Chock Full O' Nuts decaf and ground Starbucks French Roast). I buy Swiss Miss No-Sugar-Added Cocoa in bulk when Costco puts it on sale at the end of the season. I squeeze the caramel topping for 5 counts for DH and 3 counts for me. When I can't find hazelnut flavored syrup, I use the vanilla flavor; we miss that flavor accent if I omit it. This recipe fills one 18-to-20-ounce travel mug. You can top with whipped cream if you wish to make a special presentation (that may be how we made it past our third date!).

- Put water in drip coffee maker.
- Put ground coffee in filter in coffee maker. Push button. Let drip.
- Meanwhile, in an 18-to-20-ounce travel mug, pour in 1 packet of Swiss Miss No-Sugar-Added cocoa.
- If you have a sweet tooth, squeeze about 1 tablespoon of Smuckers Caramel ice cream topping (count of 5) on top of cocoa. Otherwise, add about 1/2 tablespoon of the caramel topping (count of 3).
- (Optional:) Add a splash of fat-free half-and-half on top of the caramel topping. It was approximately 1 teaspoon. This is optional; it makes the coffee taste richer.
- Add a tiny amount of hazelnut or vanilla flavored sugar syrup. I measured this to be about 1/4 teaspoon. Don't overdo it, it's better as a mysterious accent.
- Pour in prepared coffee. Stir well with knife to make sure all the cocoa mix has dissolved.
- (Optional:) Top with whipped cream if you don't put the lid on and you want to impress.

CARAMEL MACCHIATO
I love Starbucks Caramel Macchiatos. This is very similar. I make my own caramel recipe #78088. I also make my own vanilla syrup by bioling 1cup of sugar and 1cup of water, remove from heat and tsp vanilla. I usally leave the vanilla syrup out as I like to cut back on my sugar intake. I also use skin milk just to cut back on calories, because they are so good I drink way to many of them!

I only use Starbucks original whole bean espresso and grind it to a fine espresso powder and brew it up in my espresso machine.
