Steps:

• Mix the salt and baking soda with the flour, then layer the ingredients into a 1 quart, wide mouth jar. Use scissors to cut a 9 inch-diameter circle from calico. Place over lid, and secure with rubber band. Tie on a raffia or ribbon bow to cover rubber band.
• Enclose a card with the following mixing and baking directions: Chocolate Chip Cookies 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). 2. In a large bowl, cream 1 cup of unsalted butter or margarine until light and fluffy. Beat in 1 egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Mix in cookie mix. • It will be a tight fit, but all ingredients will fit in the jar.
• Use pinking shears to cut an 8 or 9 inch circle from gingham, calico, or a seasonal fabric.
• Place the fabric over the wide mouth lid and rim and secure with a rubber band.
• Tie on a raffia or ribbon bow to cover the rubber band.
• Attach a card to the ribbon or raffia with the following mixing and baking directions: Empty jar of cookie mix into a large mixing bowl.
• Add 1/2 cup of butter or margarine, 1 egg, and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla.
• Use hands to mix the wet and dry ingredients together.
• When completely blended, roll into large walnut sized balls.
• Place on unprepared cookie sheets and use the palm of your hand to flatten each cookie ball.
• Bake at 350 in a preheated oven for 8-10 minutes.

Steps:

• Creating the Gift in a Jar:
• Wash and thoroughly dry a 1-quart wide-mouth canning jar.
• Layer the ingredients in the jar as listed above starting with the sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon, baking soda, oatmeal, brown sugar, butterscotch chips and then walnuts - make sure to press firmly with a flat bottomed object after each addition; make the layers as level as possible.
• Secure the lid and decorate as desired; attach the instructions for making these cookies found below.
• OATMEAL SCOTCHIES COOKIES GIFT TAG:
• Additional ingredients to be added by the recipient: 1/2 cup butter, softened, 1 egg and 1 tsp vanilla extract.
• COOKIE INSTRUCTIONS:
• Preheat oven to 375.
• In a large bowl, blend the butter, egg and vanilla extract.
• Add the contents of the jar, and stir until well mixed.
• Drop the dough by heaping teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased baking sheet, spacing the cookies about 2 inches apart.
• Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are light brown in color.
• Allow to cool for 2 minutes on the baking sheet, then transfer to wire racks and cool completely.
• Serve immediately or store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

OATMEAL BUTTERSCOTCH CHIPS IN A JAR MIX

Steps:

• Combine flour, soda, and powder.
• Place in a 1 pint jar.
• Layer remaining ingredients pressing firmly after each layer.
• Recipe to attach to jar:.
• Preheat oven to 375°F.
• Beat 12 tablespoons softened unsalted butter, 1 egg and 1 teaspoon vanilla in a large bowl until well blended. Place cookie mix in an other bowl and mix to combine ingredients. Add butter mixture and blend in to smooth any clumps. Drop tablespoon full onto ungreased pan and bake 9-11 minutes.
• Cool on pan then remove to rack to completely cool.
