SAUSAGE GRAVY

Sausage Gravy image

Slather biscuits in Ree Drummond's comforting, top-rated Sausage Gravy recipe from The Pioneer Woman on Food Network.

Provided by Ree Drummond : Food Network

Categories     main-dish

Time 25m

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 pound breakfast sausage, hot or mild
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
3 to 4 cups whole milk, more to taste
1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper, more to taste
Biscuits, warmed, for serving

Steps:

  • With your finger, tear small pieces of sausage and add them in a single layer to a large heavy skillet. Brown the sausage over medium-high heat until no longer pink. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Sprinkle on half the flour and stir so that the sausage soaks it all up, then add more little by little. Stir it around and cook it for another minute or so, then pour in the milk, stirring constantly.
  • Cook the gravy, stirring frequently, until it thickens. (This may take a good 10 to 12 minutes.) Sprinkle in the seasoned salt and pepper and continue cooking until very thick and luscious. If it gets too thick too soon, just splash in another 1/2 cup of milk or more if needed. Taste and adjust the seasoning.
  • Spoon the sausage gravy over warm biscuits and serve immediately!

The best breakfast food by a country mile

Provided by ribeyeguy

Time 1h

Yield Serves 4

Number Of Ingredients 0

Steps:

  • Biscuits: Combine and sift dry ingredients. Gently knead in the butter. Add buttermilk and knead on a floured board. Knead gently and sparingly.
  • Form a flat mass about 1 1/2 cm high. Cut biscuit rounds with a largish water glass.
  • Bake in 200° C preheated oven on parchment paper on a baking tray for 10 mins or until a middle brown colour.
  • Saute the Pork mince with 30g of the butter in a small frying pan; add the herbs and spices. Grill the bacon until crispy.
  • Take the mince from the frying pan. Make a roux in the frying pan (don't clean it!) using the rest of the butter, the plain flour and the milk. Whisk continuously. It will take about three to four minutes. Make sure all the flour has had time to cook.
  • Add the mince to the roux and mix well. Chop the bacon into crumbs and add to the mince/roux.
  • Halve the biscuits and pour the gravy onto them. Enjoy!

EASY HOMEMADE BREAKFAST BISCUITS

Easy Homemade Breakfast Biscuits image

Make a fresh homemade batch of quick and easy biscuits for breakfast or to pair with mashed potatoes and gravy for dinner.

Provided by Jolinda Hackett

Categories     Breakfast     Brunch     Bread

Time 22m

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for kneading dough)
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup shortening (cold)
3/4 cup milk (2% or whole)

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients. Position a rack in the center of the oven and heat to 450 F.
  • In a large bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder , and the salt.
  • Cut in the shortening using a pastry cutter or two knives until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Make a well in the dry mixture and add in the milk all at once.
  • Stir together with a fork just until the dough clings together. You want it to still be a bit lumpy; this will help your biscuits be perfectly light and flaky, creating those delectable and airy layers when baking.
  • Lightly flour a clean work surface. Gently knead your biscuit dough just a few times to bring the dough together.
  • Roll out or pat the dough to 1/2-inch thickness.
  • Cut the dough into 2 1/2-inch rounds with a flour dipped biscuit cutter. Be sure to push the cutter straight down, without twisting (this prevents layers from forming). Reroll the dough scraps once more to form additional biscuits.
  • Space each piece of cut dough evenly on an ungreased baking sheet.
  • Bake until the biscuits have risen and are lightly golden brown on top, about 12 minutes.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!

  • Mix together the self-rising flour, baking powder, sugar and salt in the bowl of stand mixer. Toss in the cold butter and mix by hand to break apart the pieces a bit, then beat on medium speed just until the butter is coated in the dry mixture and begins to break down a little bit, 1 to 2 minutes. (Do NOT overmix to the point that the butter starts absorbing the dry mixture and looks shaggy.) Add the cold milk in two batches, scraping down the bowl in between each addition. Mix until dough comes together and feels tacky, no more than 2 minutes total. (You may need to add a splash or two more of milk to help it come together.)
  • Flour a clean work surface and dump out the dough. Gather it together briefly and shape it with your hands or a floured rolling pin into a 10-by-16-inch rectangle. Use a 3 1/4-inch square biscuit cutter to cut 15 pieces out of the dough. (You may have enough scraps to form one more biscuit.)
  • Place them close together on the prepared baking sheet and brush the tops liberally with melted butter. Bake, rotating the baking sheet halfway through, until biscuits are nicely golden brown, 16 to 20 minutes.
