1 3/4 pounds cherry or grape tomatoes, rinsed and dried
2 teaspoons hot sauce
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 to 3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice, to taste
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
6 ounces tomato vodka, recipe follows
1 pound ripe tomatoes
1 (750 ml) bottle 80 proof vodka

Steps:

  • Remove the stems from the tomatoes. Put the tomatoes, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, and salt into a blender, cover and blend on high speed for 1 1/2 minutes.
  • Fill an ice cube tray with about 2 cups of the juice and freeze overnight. Pour the remaining juice into a lidded container and reserve, on the counter, overnight.
  • Just before serving, put 3 frozen cubes into each of 4 Collins glasses and add 1 1/2 ounces of vodka to each glass. Stir the reserved juice, pour 4 ounces into each glass and serve immediately.
  • Cut each of the tomatoes into 8 pieces and put them into a large glass jar. Add the vodka, stir to combine, and cover. Put in a cool, dark place for at least 5 days and up to 7 days, stirring every day. After 7 days, strain through a fine mesh strainer and discard the solids.
  • To store, pour the tomato vodka back into its original bottle, and keep in a cool, dark place.
  • Yield: 1 (750 ml) bottle

Spice up a favourite breakfast with a little Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce, the perfect antidote for the morning after a big night of celebrations

4 eggs
2 tbsp milk
½ tsp Tabasco plus extra to serve, (optional)
½ tsp Worcestershire sauce, plus extra to serve (optional)
1 tbsp olive oil
100g cherry tomatoes
1 tbsp finely snipped chives
100g smoked salmon, sliced
4 slices wholemeal bread, toasted and buttered
½ lemon, sliced into wedges

Steps:

  • Beat together the eggs, milk, Tabasco, Worcestershire sauce and some seasoning in a jug. Heat the oil in a large non-stick pan over a low heat and pour in the egg mix. Cook, stirring, until it is done around the edges and slightly runny in the middle. Then tip in the tomatoes and warm through for 1 min until the eggs have finished cooking.
  • Top the toast with the scrambled eggs and chives, and place the smoked salmon on the side with a wedge of lemon to squeeze over. Drizzle over extra Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce, if you like it with an extra kick.

Tomato water
4 large beefsteak tomatoes, quartered
1/2 serrano chile, roughly chopped
1/4 red onion, roughly chopped
3-inch piece of lemongrass, tough outer leaves removed and roughly chopped
small pinch sugar
large pinch salt
1/2 lime
1/2 lemon
1/2 orange
2 18-inch-square pieces cheesecloth
Bloody Mary
Ice
16 ounces tomato water
6 ounces Grey Goose Le Citron (or any citrus vodka)
4 cherry tomatoes for garnish

Steps:

  • For tomato water:
  • In food processor, purée first six ingredients until smooth. Line sieve with cheesecloth and set sieve over nonreactive bowl. Pour purée into center of cheesecloth and refrigerate overnight. Gather sides of cheesecloth up over purée to form large sack and squeeze gently to extract last bits of water. Discard sack and its contents and transfer tomato water to bowl. Set strainer over bowl and squeeze in lime, lemon, and orange juice. Stir well. Makes about 20 ounces tomato water, enough for roughly 4 drinks.
  • For Bloody Mary
  • Fill 4 highball glasses with ice. In each, combine 4 ounces tomato water and 1 1/2 ounces vodka and stir. Garnish with cherry tomatoes.

salt and pepper to taste
1 stalk celery
2 stuffed green olives

Steps:

  • Salt the rim of a tall glass. To do so, pour salt onto a small plate, moisten the rim of the glass on a damp towel and press into the salt. Fill the glass with ice cubes.
  • In a cocktail mixer full of ice, combine the vodka, vegetable juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot pepper sauce, salt and pepper. Shake vigorously and strain into the glass. Garnish with a stalk of celery and olives stuck onto a toothpick.

2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh dill, optional
1 teaspoon seafood seasoning, such as Old Bay
1 teaspoon celery seeds
2 tablespoons hot sauce, plus more if needed
2 tablespoons prepared horseradish, plus more if needed
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
Juice of 2 lemons
Freshly cracked black pepper
4 ounces bourbon
Ice, for serving
Beef jerky, for garnish

Steps:

  • In a pitcher, mix together the tomato juice, garlic, dill if using, seafood seasoning, celery seeds, hot sauce, horseradish, balsamic, lemon juice and some pepper. Taste for seasoning, adding more hot sauce or horseradish if preferred.
