Time 1h10m

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 17

Cooking spray
1/2 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
2 teaspoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons finely grated fresh ginger
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 teaspoons five-spice powder
1 teaspoon hot sauce, or more, to taste
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
20 chicken wings
4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves (about 5 ounces each)
1 (11-ounce) package refrigerated breadstick dough
1 egg white
Sliced almonds
1 tablespoon grated Parmesan
1 cup sour cream
3 tablespoons freshly chopped parsley leaves
2 tablespoons coarse ground mustard

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Coat 2 large baking sheets with cooking spray.
  • In a shallow dish or plastic bag, combine soy sauce, sugar, ginger, garlic, five-spice powder, hot sauce, salt and black pepper, to taste. Mix well. Add chicken wings and chicken breasts and turn to coat (at this point, you may refrigerate up to 24 hours).
  • Transfer chicken wings and breasts to baking sheets and brush with marinade. Bake 25 to 30 minutes, until chicken is cooked through.
  • To make the "hands", reduce oven temperature to 375 degrees F. Coat a large baking sheet with cooking spray.
  • Unroll dough and separate into 12 breadsticks. Roll into 4-inch long "fingers" and place on baking sheet. Brush egg white all over breadsticks and place almond slice on 1 end, making a fingernail. Sprinkle Parmesan over rest of breadstick. Bake 10 to 12 minutes, until golden brown.
  • To make the dip, in a medium bowl, combine sour cream, parsley and mustard. Mix well. Place dip in a serving bowl and insert fingers. Serve the wings with the dip and "hands" and reserve the chicken breasts for the salad.

BAT WINGS (BAKED CHICKEN WINGS)

Bat Wings (Baked Chicken Wings) image

These are kind of like baked hot wings. I love to make the sauce, although, sometimes I get really lazy and use Buffalo Wild Wings sauces  Also, for the hot sauce, I use tabasco or Frank's Hot Wing Sauce. Sometimes, depending on how much I want my mouth on fire, I add 1/8 -1/4 teaspoon of cayenne! Serving size depends on if this is for an appetizer or a main meal. Prep time does not include marinade time (I make in the morning let it marinate all day and then cook at night)

  • Heat the oven to 425F. In a small bowl, prepare the seasoning mixture. Combine the salt, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and cayenne and whisk with a fork. In large bowl, toss the whole chicken wings with the seasoning mixture until completely coated. I like to add a little spice at a time to prevent a few wings becoming more seasoned than the others. (Tip: make sure your wings have been patted dry. This will help the seasoning stick and the skin to become crispy. No oil is needed, the fat from the skin will give it great color and texture!)
  • Arrange the wings on a baking sheet fitted with a cooking rack, stretching the wings a bit to maintain the bat wing look. (The purpose of the cooking rack is to promote air circulation and crispiness. If you don’t have one, make sure you put parchment paper or some kind of non-stick surface down on your pan so the wings don’t stick. You may also want to flip your wings more frequently to get a crispier skin! It still works without a rack, I’ve done it that way lots of times!)
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes (less time for tinier wings, more time for meatier ones), flipping after 20 minutes. Broil for 10 minutes more (flipping again in the middle- 5 minutes per side) to finish them off. You will know the wings are done when they pull apart easily!
