cooking spray
2 sweet potatoes
1 teaspoon seasoned salt, or more to taste

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease 2 baking sheets with cooking spray.
  • Make a lengthwise cut partway through the middle of each sweet potato.
  • Cut potatoes into coins using the slicer attachment on a spiralizer. Arrange coins on the baking sheets. Spray with cooking spray. Season both sides with seasoned salt.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until edges start to curl, 20 to 25 minutes. Season with more salt. Let cool until crisp, about 10 minutes.

3 medium sweet potatoes
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 pinch salt and pepper
Optional spices: paprika, cumin, cayenne, cinnamon, garlic, etc.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (230 degrees C).
  • Prep potatoes: Wash sweet potatoes and remove any growths or blemishes, but do not peel. Cut potatoes into 1/3 inch (10 mm) round slices.
  • Season potatoes: Drizzle olive oil onto large sheet pan and spread until even on baking sheet. Add potato rounds to pan with one side facing down to cover with oil, then flip all potato medallions to make sure each side is lightly oiled. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and any additional desired spices.
  • Bake until golden brown: Bake in oven for a total of 40-45 minutes, flipping once about halfway through and until both sides are lightly browned and crispy on the edges.

This is the BEST way to eat a sweet potato. We have baked sweet potatoes with our steaks instead of Idaho potatoes. It's a nice complement to chicken and beef - or any other meat that I can think of! This can also be made on the grill or tossed in the coals if you are camping!

4 garnet yams
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 cup whipped butter

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Bake yams for 45 to 75 minutes (bigger yams take longer to cook).
  • When they are done, the outside will have darkened and the inside will be soft.
  • You may see liquid from the potato oozing out and charring.
  • When the potato is sliced open, the inside of the skin will be charred black from the caramelizing sugar in the potato.
  • This is a perfectly cooked potato.
  • Mix the sugar and cinnamon together and set aside.
  • To serve, slice a potato down the center.
  • Add two Tbs of whipped butter, then sprinkle some cinnamon/sugar over the top.

1 tablespoon oil (avocado oil, extra virgin olive oil, or melted coconut oil)

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400F.
  • Cut the sweet potatoes in half, lengthwise, with a sharp knife. Place the potatoes on a rimmed baking sheet.
  • Drizzle the potatoes with one tablespoon of oil, then rub the oil on the flesh of each potato. Sprinkle each potato with just a pinch of salt.
  • Flip the potatoes over, flesh-side down on the baking sheet. Some oil will spill over on the sheet pan--that's normal and okay.
  • Bake the sweet potatoes, uncovered, for 30-35 minutes, until the skins begin to look shriveled and soft. Remove the potatoes from the oven.
  • The baked sweet potatoes should be slightly brown and caramelized on the top of the flesh and soft throughout the potato. Enjoy the potatoes warm (I love to add a tablespoon of butter and cinnamon, or see other ideas in the post above), or place them in an air-tight container in the fridge to enjoy later in the week.
