SIMPLE MAPLE VANILLA BAKED PEARS

Simple Maple Vanilla Baked Pears image

4 ingredient super simple maple vanilla baked pears that are cooked until warm and soft, completely infused with maple and vanilla, and topped with crunchy granola.

Provided by Sally

Categories     Dessert

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 5

4 D'Anjou pears (aka Anjou pears)
1/2 cup (120ml) pure maple syrup
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
optional toppings: maple almond granola, Greek yogurt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). I don't line my baking sheet when I make these, but you absolutely can with parchment or a silicone baking mat.
  • Cut pears in half, then cut a small sliver off the underside so the pears sit flat when placed upright on the baking sheet. See video above for visual. Using a large or medium cookie scoop or melon baller (or even a teaspoon), core out the seeds. Arrange pears, facing up, on the baking sheet. Sprinkle evenly with cinnamon- feel free to add more cinnamon if you'd like.
  • Whisk the maple syrup and vanilla extract together in a small bowl. Drizzle most of it all over the pears, reserving about 2 Tablespoons for after the pears are finished baking.
  • Bake pears for about 25 minutes until soft and lightly browned on the edges. Remove from the oven and immediately drizzle with remaining maple syrup mixture. Serve warm with granola and yogurt. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

PEARS WITH MAPLE SYRUP, PECANS AND CRANBERRIES - MICROWAVE

Pears With Maple Syrup, Pecans and Cranberries - Microwave image

A delicious low fat and EASY dessert to impress! A wonderful mix of ingredients that is great served with home-made ice cream or creme fraiche. These pears cook quite happily in the microwave - as well as the more conventional baking or stove top method too. A recipe I devised for our Bed & Brekafast last Autumn, after a huge harvest of pears from our garden and whilst also trying to find a use for numerous opened packets of dried fruits and nuts!!

Provided by French Tart

Categories     Dessert

Time 10m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

4 ripe pears, peeled, cored & halved
1 tablespoon dried cranberries
3 tablespoons maple syrup
3 ounces pecan nuts, broken roughly
ice cream or creme fraiche, to serve

Steps:

  • Microwave method:.
  • Place the peeled, cored and halved pears into a microwaveable dish. Place them cut side down.
  • Scatter the dried cranberries over the pears.
  • Pour 2 tablespoons of the maple syrup over the pears & cranberries & cover with microwaveable cling film.
  • Microwave on High for 3 minutes until softened, stirring half way through.
  • Uncover and leave to cool off slightly for a few minutes.
  • Stir the pecan nuts through the syrup.
  • Spoon into serving dishes making sure EVERYONE gets some nutty syrup & cranberries! (1 pear - 2 halves per person!).
  • Drizzle over the remaining maple syrup.
  • Serve with ice cream or creme fraiche. Yoghurt is nice with this dessert too.
  • Oven baking method:.
  • Pre-heat oven to 200 C or 400°F.
  • Follow recipe as above, making sure the dish is oven proof!
  • Bake for about 45 minutes or until pears are soft but still holding their shape.
  • Mix in nuts as before and serve as before.
  • (These can also be cooked in a deep frying pan, skillet or wok on top of the stove with a lid placed over them; Bring them to a slow boil and then simmer gently for about 30 - 45 minutes. Serve as before.).

BAKED PEARS IN MAPLE SYRUP AND APPLE BRANDY

Baked Pears in Maple Syrup and Apple Brandy image

This recipe is from the December 2000 issue of Gourmet magazine. Baking in apple brandy brings out the best in a Bosc.

Provided by Chef Regina V. Smith

Categories     Dessert

Time 45m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 1/2 cups pure maple syrup
6 bosc pears (firm and with stems)
3 tablespoons white sugar
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
3 tablespoons calvados (or other apple brandy to taste)
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces
1 cup heavy cream, chilled

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Put maple syrup in a shallow bowl.
  • Cut a thin slice from the bottom of each pear so that the pears will stand upright. Dip and roll each pear in maple syrup to coat completely, reserving remaining syrup. Transfer pears as coated to a 9 inch square baking pan, standing them upright.
  • Sprinkle pears with 2 tbsps. of the white sugar, holding by stems and tilting to coat sides. Stir lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of the Calvados and butter into the reserved syrup and pour around pears in pan.
  • Bake pears, uncovered, in the middle of the oven until the undersides are tender when pierced with a knife, about 30 minutes.
  • Beat cream with the remaining tbsps. of sugar and Calvados with an electric mixer until it holds soft peaks.
  • Divide pears and syrup among 6 plates and serve warm, with the whipped cream on the side.

  • Preheat the oven to 375°. Peel the pears and cut them in half lengthwise. Using a melon baller or a teaspoon, scoop out the cores. Rub the pears with the cut lemon to prevent browning.
  • Melt the butter in an ovenproof skillet just large enough to hold the pears in a single layer. Add the brown sugar and maple syrup and cook over moderately low heat, stirring, until the sugar is dissolved. Add the pears and turn them several times to coat with the syrup. Arrange the pears, cut side down, in a single layer and bake for about 30 minutes, basting occasionally with pan juices, until just softened and golden.
  • Transfer the pears to a platter and keep warm. If necessary, add a little water to the skillet to thin the syrup. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Pour the syrup over the pears and serve warm or at room temperature.
