OVEN-BAKED BACON

Oven-Baked Bacon image

I always bake bacon in the oven! You just need to plan a bit ahead as the bacon takes longer. With baking, the bacon grease stays nice and clean and you can reuse it to saute vegetables or eggs for extra flavor.

Categories     Side Dish

Time 35m

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 1

1 (16 ounce) package bacon

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Place bacon slices one next to the other on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from oven. Flip bacon slices with kitchen tongs and return to oven. Bake until crispy, 15 to 20 minutes more. Thinner slices will need less time, about 20 minutes total. Drain on a plate lined with paper towels.

OVEN BACON

Oven Bacon image

Cooking bacon in the oven gives you perfectly crispy slices without any flipping or fussing, and the cleanup is superspeedy. It's also the best way to make bacon for a crowd. You can cook the bacon directly on aluminum foil-lined baking sheets or on a wire rack set on top of the baking sheets. The latter method will give you extracrispy bacon, but you'll have to wash that greasy rack. Your choice!

Provided by Ali Slagle

Categories     breakfast, meat, side dish

Time 20m

Yield 4 to 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 1

1 pound bacon

Steps:

  • Heat the oven to 450 degrees. Arrange the bacon in a single layer on 2 aluminum foil-lined rimmed baking sheets, or, for extracrispy bacon, arrange on 2 wire racks set over 2 foil-lined rimmed baking sheets.
  • Bake until the bacon is browned and starts to ripple, or to desired doneness, 10 to 20 minutes. (Because the cook time depends on the thickness of the bacon and how you like it cooked, start checking doneness at the 10-minute mark.)
  • Transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.

BACON IN THE OVEN

Bacon in the Oven image

Now you can make bacon in no time! It's easy, not messy at all and everyone loves it! Also there is no exact amount. It has a great smokey taste.

Provided by anichka20

Categories     Breakfast

Time 25m

Yield 6-8 bacon slices, 2-3 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 2

bacon
1 pinch black pepper

Steps:

  • First all you need to do is take the bacon and lay it down on any of the following, cookie sheet, parchment paper (not wax paper as the wax can melt and/or the paper can catch fire), or aluminum foil. We do this for an easy clean up but if you want just lay down on your baking pan. Then sprinkle the bacon with black pepper.
  • Next turn on your oven to 400 degrees fahrenheit.
  • Put your bacon in and wait about 15 min to check on it then as soon as the bacon is crispy brown or golden brown take it out and you're done!

PERFECT OVEN-COOKED BACON

Perfect Oven-Cooked Bacon image

This recipe differs from others in method - it produces bacon slices which are perfectly flat - better for sandwiches and some recipes which call for cooked bacon. You will not be using the 1/4 teaspoon water. Food.com will not let you upload a recipe that only has one ingredient, so I had to make up a second ingredient. I tried putting in "love" but it wouldn't let me. You should always be cooking with love, btw.

Provided by xtine

Categories     Breakfast

Time 25m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 2

1 lb bacon
1/4 teaspoon water

Steps:

  • DO NOT pre-heat the oven.
  • You will not be using the 1/4 teaspoon water. I had to add it to the ingredients list because Food.com will not let you upload a recipe that only has one ingredient, so I had to make up a second ingredient.
  • Place the bacon in a single layer on a cold, rimmed baking sheet. If you like, you can line the pan with parchment paper to make clean-up easier, but I like to save my bacon grease to cook with, and the parchment makes it difficult to get it all out of the baking sheet, so I just leave the pan unlined.
  • Place the pan on the center rack of a cold oven. Set the oven to 400º.
  • Cook for 15 to 20 minutes. Very thin bacon will only take about 15 minutes, thick-cut bacon will take 20. After 15 minutes, keep an eye on the bacon to make sure it is not getting too brown.
  • Immediately remove the bacon to a plate lined with paper towels.
  • Blot the top of the bacon with paper towels to remove extra grease.
  • If you like, save the bacon grease in a heat-proof container. The grease can be stored in the fridge and used later in other recipes - you just got two products for the price of one :).

  • Heat the oven to 400°F and prepare the baking sheet. Arrange rack in the middle of the oven and heat the oven to 400°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil, making sure there is overhang on all 4 sides (overlap a few sheets if needed, this makes cleanup easier).
  • Arrange the bacon on the baking sheet. Arrange 12 ounces bacon on the baking sheet in a single layer. The slices can be close together or touching, but don't let them overlap or they'll stick together during cooking.
  • Bake the bacon. Bake until the bacon is deep golden-brown and crispy, about 14 minutes for regular bacon and 18 minutes for thick-cut bacon. Exact baking time will depend on the thickness of the bacon and how crispy you like it. Begin checking the bacon after 12 minutes. The bacon fat will sputter and bubble as the bacon cooks, but shouldn't splatter the way it does on the stovetop.
  • Transfer the bacon to a plate lined with paper towels. Use tongs to transfer the bacon to the paper towels to drain and finish crisping. Serve immediately.

  • Unroll enough parchment paper to cover the base of the baking sheet, and then double it — so you have enough to cover the bacon strips as well.
  • Fold the excess parchment paper over the top of the bacon and tuck below the bottom layer. (The bacon will be in the middle, with parchment paper on the top and bottom of it.
  • Turn the oven on to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. (This seems to be the best temperature to bake bacon.)
  • Set the timer. (As mentioned above, the exact time will take some experimenting on your part. I generally set the timer for 15 minutes if I’m baking regular/thin bacon.
  • Once the timer goes off, remove baking sheet from the oven — then immediately open up the parchment paper and let it rest until the bacon stops sizzling.
  • Get a plate or cutting board, and place a couple sheets of paper towel on it. Use a spatula or tongs to lift and place the bacon onto the paper towel.
  • Place a few sheets of paper towel on top of the bacon, and press down — to absorb excess grease.

  • Grab a half sheet pan and cover it with either foil or parchment paper. If you plan to collect the bacon grease after the bacon is cooked, it's easier to pour it off of parchment paper.
  • Add the bacon slices to the pan, nestling them in closely together. The bacon shrinks a lot during cooking, so you don't need extra room around the individual slices.
  • Place the pan in the oven and cook for 15-20 minutes. The cook time will depend on the thickness of your bacon, but for standard medium cut bacon, 18 minutes is about perfect. If you like super crispy bacon, cook it an additional 2-3 minutes.

  • If making an amount of bacon that will fit on a single baking sheet without overlapping (about 6 to 8 slices, depending upon the bacon and sheet), place a rack in the center of your oven. If making a larger amount, place the racks in the upper and lower thirds. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with foil for easy clean up (if you prefer to bake the bacon without foil, leave the foil off), then place an ovenproof baking rack on top. Spritz the baking rack lightly with nonstick spray. Arrange the bacon in a single layer on the baking rack.
  • Bake until you reach your desired level of crispness. This could be as early as 12 minutes if you are using thinner bacon and like it less crisp or 20 minutes or more if you using a thicker cut and like your bacon really crispy. If baking two racks at once, rotate their positions halfway through.
  • Once cooked, immediately transfer the bacon to a paper-towel-lined plate and lightly pat dry (this keeps it from getting soggy). Let cool just enough so that you don't (completely) burn your tongue. Devour immediately or use to top salads, pastas, and sandwiches, or in any of these recipes.

  • Get the oven HOT. Preheat to 400° and line a large baking sheet with foil. (You'll be thankful once it's time to do dishes.) Test Kitchen Note: Everyone's oven is different.
  • Use your cooling rack. If you like your bacon extra crispy, put a metal cooling rack inside the baking sheet. Elevating the bacon allows the strips to cook from all sides.
  • Bake the bacon. Lay bacon strips in a SINGLE layer on the baking sheet. Do not let them overlap or the strips will stick together. Bake until the bacon is crispy, about 20 minutes, depending on its thickness.
  • Drain the slices. Per usual, drain the (very greasy) bacon slices on a paper towel-lined plate, then serve immediately.
  • Save the bacon fat! Pour grease into a mason jar (or other glass container) and store in the fridge. Seriously though — saving the fat will be the best decision you make all week.
