2 cups dry bread crumbs
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, divided
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
10 cups sliced tart apple
⅓ cup butter, melted
⅓ cup applesauce
1 ½ teaspoons white sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a small bowl, combine bread crumbs, brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and cloves. Place half of the sliced apples in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Top with half the bread crumb mixture. Repeat layers. Pour melted butter over all and cover with applesauce. Combine remaining cinnamon with white sugar and sprinkle on top.
  • Bake in preheated oven 1 hour, until apples are tender and mixture is bubbly.

10 -12 baking apples, peeled, cored and sliced
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 1/4 cups flour
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 lb butter
2/3 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup hot water
1/2 lemon, juice of

Steps:

  • Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Arrange slices in the bottom of a lightly greased 12x9 pan.
  • Sprinkle with cinnamon.
  • Mix flour and brown sugar.
  • Cut in butter until crumbly and set aside.
  • Syrup: Combine ingredients and stir well.
  • Drizzle half of mixture over apples.
  • Cover with flour mix.
  • Pour remaining syrup over top.
  • Bake at 350 for one hour.

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Lightly spray 2-quart casserole with cooking spray.

5 large Golden Delicious apples (about 2 pounds), peeled and thinly sliced
1 cup apple cider
3 tablespoons brown sugar, divided
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, divided
2 tablespoons butter, divided
3 slices whole-wheat bread (1-ounce each) crusts included (to make about 2 1/4 cups crumbs)
3 tablespoons chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Combine apples, apple cider, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, vanilla, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until apples are tender but not mushy, about 10 minutes. Stir in 1 tablespoon butter until melted, remove from heat and transfer apple mixture to a 9-inch glass pie plate.
  • Place bread in food processor and process until crumbs are formed, about 15 seconds. Melt remaining 1 tablespoon butter in microwave for 20 seconds.   • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
2 1/2 pounds Gala apples (about 6), peeled, cored, and cut into 1/2-inch-thick slices
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/3 cup packed light- or dark-brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, plus more for serving (optional)
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Vanilla ice cream, for serving (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a food processor, pulse bread until coarse crumbs form (you should have about 2 cups). Spread breadcrumbs on a rimmed baking sheet; bake until golden, 8 to 10 minutes. Let cool completely. Transfer to a bowl, add butter, and toss until coated.
